Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today’s fast-paced world, individuals hold diverse opinions on a wide range of topics. Regarding an issue of imposing curfew in some areas of the US, opinions are divided, with some supporting it while others oppose it. In my view, it is important to critically analyse both sides of the argument before forming a well-rounded opinion.

Those in favour of imposing night curfew argue that safety is key priority for children. This perspective is based on the belied that keeping children in house prevents from potenial harm from attackers. For example, the crime rate in the US have risen 20% year over year at night time. Additionally, supporters assert that they are able to save more money. To explain it in simple words, young children in the US are spending 30% more money compare to other countries at movies, pubs or at arcade activity centers. Which further strengthens the case for children staying at home during night time.

Conversely, opponents of imposing night curfew raise valid concerns, such as freedom to young children. This viewpoint highlights the potential risks associated with physical and mental development of children, as keeping them inside reduces social interaction with other kids. Furthermore, critics point out that children who are kept inside tends to be introvert, as they don’t interact with others and enjoy their own company and plays video games at home.

In conclusion, the debate surrounding imposed curfew is multifaceted, with valid arguments on both sides. While supporters emphasize the benefits, opponents raise important considerations. After examining the arguments for and against night curfew, it is crucial to weigh the evidence ccarefully before forming a definitive opinion. Ultimately, a balanced approach that considers various perspectives is essential in navigating complex isseus such as imposing night curfew for teenagers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the curfew issue. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. The argument regarding financial savings is not clearly linked to the curfew itself, and the claim that crime rates rose by 20% lacks context or logical connection to the effectiveness of the curfew. While a position is mentioned in the introduction, it remains somewhat neutral throughout the body paragraphs rather than clearly advocating for a specific stance. To improve, ensure that each supporting point directly addresses the prompt and provides a more logical, well-reasoned explanation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Conversely', and 'Furthermore' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly forced. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be more seamless. The conclusion summarizes the main points effectively, but it does not clearly state the author's final opinion, which is expected in a task asking for an opinion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'multifaceted' and 'navigating', which is positive. However, there are several spelling errors ('belied' for 'belief', 'potenial' for 'potential', 'isseus' for 'issues', 'ccarefully' for 'carefully') and some awkward collocations, such as 'arcade activity centers'. The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but more precision and fewer spelling mistakes are needed to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the crime rate... have risen', 'children... tends to be introvert') and missing articles ('in house', 'at night time'). These errors do not impede communication, but they are noticeable. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring that complex structures are used with greater precision.
