Student answer (Band 6.5)
There is an ongoing debate regarding a "curfew" in some parts of the United States of America where teenagers are restricted to go out doors after a specific time at night if they do not have an adult to accompany them. This type of restriction on growing individuals has both positive and negative impacts which will be discussed in detail.
On the one hand, imposing a curfew allows a safe environment as well as it monitors activities of teenagers. The majority of crimes including drug peddling, theft and other illegal activities are carried out in the dark. Many organizations involve innocent youngsters and attract them to these activities by offering a substantial amount of money. These activities are usually prefered in late hours of the day to avoid attention. Moreover, young adolescents must be accompanied by adults which ensure their safety and an adult supervision will help to understand the challenges that can occur due to late night activities.
On the other hand, growing children need space and these kinds of restrictions can impact their mental health. This can result in fear and judgement that dark is always associated with a hostile environment. Many of these individuals can lose the confidence in the society and can develop a protective mechanism against the odd hours of night. For example, this can trigger a cycle of alertness which will affect their abilities to sense danger.
In my opinion, there must be a proper guidance for children and youngsters about the potential disadvantages of hanging out alone at night and why such restrictions are important for age specific individuals. This can create a positive impact where teenagers will understand that imposing a curfew does not mean suffocation but it is a protective measure for better and safer future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear opinion and supporting it with relevant arguments. You have balanced the discussion by presenting both the benefits of safety and the potential psychological drawbacks. The ideas are generally well-developed, though the second body paragraph could have been strengthened with a more concrete example to illustrate the 'protective mechanism' you mentioned. Your position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively synthesizes your viewpoint. To reach a higher band, ensure that all arguments are fully extended with specific evidence or logical consequences.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover' to guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing in the second paragraph—specifically the link between 'dark' and 'hostile environment'—could be more fluid. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the structure supports the development of your argument effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'ongoing debate', 'substantial amount', and 'protective measure' are used effectively. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'prefered in late hours' (should be 'preferred during late hours') and 'age specific individuals' (which is slightly awkward). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, there is room to incorporate more sophisticated academic collocations to enhance the precision of your arguments. The vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures throughout the essay. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'restricted to go out doors' (should be 'restricted from going outdoors') and 'an adult supervision will help' (should be 'adult supervision will help'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article usage slips, such as 'the dark' (often used as 'at night' or 'in darkness'). Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear, and the grammatical mistakes do not impede the reader's understanding. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences would help improve this score.
