Student answer (Band 6.5)
There is an ongoing debate regarding a "curfew" in some parts of the United States of America where teenagers are restricted to going out doors after a specific time at night if they do not have an adult to accompany them. This type of restriction on growing individuals has both positive and negative impacts which will be discussed in detail.
On the one hand, imposing a curfew allows a safe environment as well as it monitors activities of teenagers. The majority of crimes including drug peddling, theft and other illegal activities are carried out in the dark. Many organizations involve innocent youngsters and attract them to these activities by offering a substantial amount of money. These activities are usually preferred in late hours of the day to avoid attention. Moreover, young adolescents must be accompanied by adults which ensure their safety and an adult supervision will help to understand the challenges that can occur due to late night activities.
On the other hand, growing children need space and these kinds of restrictions can impact their mental health. This can result in fear and judgement that dark is always associated with a hostile environment. Many of these individuals can lose the confidence in the society and can develop a protective mechanism against the odd hours of night. For example, this can trigger a cycle of alertness which will affect their abilities to sense danger.
In my opinion, there must be a proper guidance for children and youngsters about the potential disadvantages of hanging out alone at night and why such restrictions are important for age-specific individuals. This can create a positive impact where teenagers will understand that imposing a curfew does not mean suffocation but it is a protective measure for a better and safer future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position on the curfew issue. The arguments for both sides are relevant and logically extended. For instance, you effectively link the curfew to crime prevention and adult supervision, while also exploring the psychological impact on teenagers. To reach a higher band, ensure that your personal opinion is more explicitly integrated into the body paragraphs rather than just the conclusion. While the ideas are well-supported, some points, such as the 'cycle of alertness,' could be explained with more clarity to ensure the reader fully grasps the connection to the curfew's impact.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. You use appropriate paragraphing to separate the opposing viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Moreover' are used effectively to guide the reader through your argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing in the third paragraph—specifically the phrase 'these kinds of restrictions'—could be more precisely linked to the previous context. Overall, the flow is smooth, and the structure supports the development of your argument well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'ongoing debate,' 'substantial amount of money,' and 'protective measure' are used correctly. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'growing individuals' (which sounds slightly unnatural) and 'the dark' (which should be 'the nighttime' or 'late hours'). While you attempt some less common vocabulary, there is room to incorporate more sophisticated collocations to elevate the tone of the essay. The vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You show good control over basic grammar, and your meaning is consistently clear. There are some minor errors, such as 'restricted to going out doors' (should be 'restricted from going outdoors') and 'an adult supervision' (which should be 'adult supervision'). Additionally, 'the dark is always associated with' is slightly awkward phrasing. While you use complex structures, they are not always error-free. Increasing the variety of complex sentence forms and ensuring subject-verb agreement in more complex clauses would help improve this score.
