Student answer (Band 7.0)

In a few regions of United States, teenagers are not permitted to go out after a certain time at night without accompanying an adult. Although some people may consider this regulation to be too excessive, I largely support the introduction of curfews because it will enhance young people' safety and discourage antisocial behavior.

The primary reason for imposing a curfew is to protect teenagers from potential dangers during late hours. Youngsters may be more vulnerable to becoming victims of crime, getting involved in accidents or finding themselves in unsafe situations when they are outside without adult supervision at night. This curfew can be an additional safety net which will ensure that to get back to safe zones , and this will be savior for parents' peace of mind. For example, If teens have the deadline of reaching home by 10pm, they are less likely to find themselves in more prevalent crimes throughout the country.

Another significant benefit is that it will reduce antisocial behavior among adolescents. Large groups of teens who gather late at night may sometime engage in activities such as vandalism, fighting, or excessive disturbance, which can trouble local residents. A curfew can deter the impact by establishing the clear boundaries and consequences of breaking them. Nevertheless, this law needs to be applied sensibly. Teenagers who need to travel home from home, or if they have to attend their education institution, should be allowed to do so, provided they can provide a legitimate reason.

In conclusion, I believe that curfews can definitely be justified as it protects teens' security at nighttimes and can contribute to safer communities. However, there should be a room for accommodating exemptions for them without preventing them developing independence at the same time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding safety and antisocial behavior are relevant and well-supported with logical explanations. The introduction clearly states your opinion, and the conclusion reinforces it. To reach a higher band, ensure that the development of ideas is more consistent; for instance, the example provided about the 10pm deadline is a bit vague. Overall, the response is well-focused and directly answers the prompt, demonstrating a clear understanding of the requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central topic, and cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'The primary reason', 'Another significant benefit', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Referencing is generally clear, and the structure supports the overall argument effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'antisocial behavior', 'vulnerable to becoming victims', and 'legitimate reason' are used correctly. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'savior for parents' peace of mind' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'deter the impact' (which is imprecise). However, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication of your ideas. To improve, try to incorporate more idiomatic or less common collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While there are some grammatical errors, such as 'In a few regions of United States' (missing 'the') and 'ensure that to get back to safe zones' (incorrect infinitive usage), these do not impede communication. Complex structures are attempted, though some are slightly awkward, such as 'provided they can provide a legitimate reason'. Punctuation is generally accurate, and the majority of your sentences are clear. Focusing on article usage and sentence construction will help improve your accuracy further.
