Student answer (Band 5.5)
There is a considerabel debate over whether teenagers should not be allowed to go out at nights by themselves, unless they are with an adult.
This essay will discuss this point of view, before presenting my own opinion on why it is important for teenagers to be accompanied by an adult during night time. And there should be rules to prevent them from doing so.
On the one hand, a large number of people believe that all teenagers should be baned from going outside at nights alone, because they assume it is dangerous and insafe for them. For instance, a recent study conducted by Harvard University in 2019, shows that 70 percent of the teenage population that goes out of doors at night without the supervision of their parents, have the highest rate of drugs and smok addiction. Therefore, they encourage governments to put some stricket rules to protect this category of children, and band them form going outside at night alone.
On the other hand, others believe that it is very dangerous for their teenage kids to go outside to some party or shopping alone, without being under their controle and supervision. Therefore, they have a strong voice to change the rules, which they demand their government to set some laws to prevent this kind of actions from happening inside their country.
To sum up, I strongly believe that all children and teenagers should be band from going out of door at night by themselves, unless they are accompanied by an adult or their parents.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. Both body paragraphs essentially argue the same point—that curfews are necessary for safety—rather than exploring different facets of the issue or acknowledging counter-arguments. The example provided (Harvard study) is specific, but the overall argument lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the reasoning behind your opinion and ensure that each paragraph contributes a distinct, well-supported idea rather than restating the same point in different words.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Therefore' are used to link ideas. However, the transition between the two body paragraphs is weak because they present nearly identical arguments, making the progression feel circular rather than linear. Additionally, some referencing is slightly repetitive. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph introduces a unique, logical step in your argument would enhance the flow and coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. There are several spelling errors, such as 'considerabel', 'baned', 'insafe', 'stricket', and 'controle', which indicate a need for more careful proofreading. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'supervision' and 'addiction', the repetition of basic words like 'rules' and 'laws' limits your score. To improve, focus on using more precise synonyms and ensuring accurate spelling of common academic terms. Expanding your vocabulary to include more collocations would also help elevate your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'should not be allowed to go out at nights' (should be 'at night'), 'rate of drugs and smok addiction' (should be 'drug and smoking addiction'), and 'prevent this kind of actions' (should be 'these kinds of actions'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, pluralization, and the correct use of prepositions. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will help you achieve a higher band.
