Student answer (Band 6.0)

In a few regions of united states, restrictions was enforced by government for youngsters to stay at home at night time or should be outside with elders or adults. In my opinion, this decision is best for youth and children towards safety.

To begin with, there are multifarious reasons that’s why, officials enacted these rules. Firstly, crime rate is increasing day by day. To explain it more, there is some isolated area where criminals attack on young ones more by kidnapping or robbery. For example, one of my friend lives in that area due to peace and less traffic but some people followed her one day for robbery. Secondly, they impose curfew to improve parental supervision. Some of the parents are tired after getting home and just sleep afterwards without knowing their children are at home or not,but due to law they keep an eye on kids more and encourage to stay them home after late nights. Finally,it is best to discourage gang involvement. By reducing the late night hours for common people is helpful to reduce criminals activities such as drugs supply, otherwise they will be involved with gangsters members or participate in illegal activities. So, curfews can reduce their exposure to negative involvement and increase parental supervision more closer. For example, In 2024 ,los angles imposed a curfew for youngsters near the metro station because of concerns for youth safety and violence.

In conclusion, If government applies any restrictions for youth safety, everyone should have to follow the rules and regulations times accordingly. It is not only beneficial for society but also for the youth safety too.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear opinion and supporting it with relevant reasons such as crime reduction, parental supervision, and gang prevention. The ideas are generally well-developed, though some explanations, such as the example of the friend, could be more concisely integrated. The inclusion of a specific example regarding Los Angeles adds relevance to the argument. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that the connection between the examples and the main arguments is more seamless and avoid minor generalizations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Finally' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are occasional issues with referencing and sentence flow, such as the slightly awkward phrasing in the transition between the friend's anecdote and the broader argument about parental supervision. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at using less common items like 'multifarious' and 'enacted'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'stay them home' instead of 'keep them at home' and 'negative involvement'. Some phrasing is also repetitive, particularly regarding the word 'safety'. While the meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and the student would benefit from using more precise academic collocations to express complex ideas more fluently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('restrictions was enforced', 'there is some isolated area') and punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas and periods. While these errors are frequent, they do not impede communication. The student attempts complex structures, but control is inconsistent. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with pluralization, verb tense consistency, and proper sentence punctuation.
