Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is undeniable that rules and regulations are always made for the security and safety of local public whather its regarding traffic, driving, pollution etc. Likewise, there is a rule for adolescents to stay at home after sunset in some parts of the United States or go out with an adult at night. However, I am partially agree with this rule and i would explain my points of view in the following paragraphs.

On one hand, this rule is essential to prevent teens from kidnapping. Unfortunately, there are thousands of people who does these type of shameless things. But the question is this, why just teenagers? As they are not much mature and powerful as compared to adults and cannot save themselves, if somebody attacks and its easy for kidnappers to scare them as well. Therefore, curfew is imposed in many parts of the US for youngsters safety. Apart from this, it is helpful to decrease the accident rates on roads. For example, some times adolescents don't follow the rules while passing the roads and drivers cannot see them on dark places and accidents happen. So, this rule is good to reduce this problem.

On the other hand, It may makes teens dependant. Teen age is the leaning age for everyone, but if they would be forced to accompanied with adults at night just because of this law then they would not face the dark alone, Also they would not feel the need to be mature because they are always prevented by their older siblings.

According to my point of view, authorities should provide alternate source for the security of teenagers or can impose this rule for the danger zones only, not everywhere. This would allow them to go in the parks for spending some time alone, if they need. Also, Government can increase the police duties at night for cities and towns round for everyone's safety and provide cameras everywhere.

In conclusion, this rule is good for teens safety and security but imposing this rule on them for going anywhere at night after a particular time is not good because they need to be mature and do the task alone. It makes them independent. But, for the red zones there should be some restrictions for adolescents at night.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the pros and cons of teen curfews and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as safety from kidnapping and road accidents, and the counter-argument regarding independence is well-conceived. However, the development is somewhat uneven; some points, like the suggestion for 'danger zones,' are introduced late and could have been integrated more smoothly into the main body. The position is consistent throughout, but the depth of analysis could be improved by providing more specific examples or nuanced reasoning to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On one hand,' 'Apart from this,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing or minor grammatical slips. Referencing is generally clear, but the connection between ideas within paragraphs could be more fluid. Overall, the structure is coherent, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific language like 'regulations,' 'adolescents,' and 'independent.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'shameless things' instead of 'criminal acts' or 'leaning age' instead of 'formative years.' The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band. Spelling is mostly accurate, though 'whather' and 'dependant' (as an adjective) contain errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('thousands of people who does,' 'It may makes') and incorrect verb forms ('if they would be forced to accompanied'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and capitalization. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
