Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often contended that adolescents shouldn't be permitted to leave their houses without an adult accompanying them after a certain time at night. For this reason, a few regions in the US have placed a curfew to place a time limit for youngsters. This essay will explain why I find it to be a beneficial strategy for the parents in ensuring the well being of their offsprings.

Parents are often concerned with the safety of their children during late hours owing to the worsening law and order situation and the smart lock down in the country. Many shops close earlier and there are fewer people on the street. This has caused a rise in street crimes. Children that are let out unattended become easier targets for crimes like theft or kidnapping. Therefore parents feel sense a security if they have their children in front of their eyes at late nights.

Another advantage is that adolescents can be disciplined by the curfew. They will know that they need to structure any outside activity before a certain time hence won't leave anything for the last minute. For instance, if an assignment that requires printing papers is to be submitted in class the next day, the child will prioritize getting it done timely instead of procrastinating like children of this age generally tend to do.

In conclusion, there are risks associated with letting teenager unaccompanied outside at late hours. Imposing a curfew has benefits that are helping parents ensure the safety and discipline in the childrens life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed the prompt by clearly stating your opinion in the introduction and supporting it with two distinct arguments: safety and discipline. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. However, the development of the second point regarding discipline is slightly weak; the example provided about printing assignments is a bit tenuous and does not strongly link to the concept of a curfew. To reach a higher band, ensure that all supporting examples directly reinforce the main argument. Overall, you have maintained a clear position throughout the response, which is a positive aspect of your writing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'For this reason', 'Another advantage', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition from the safety argument to the discipline argument is functional but could be more sophisticated. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and each paragraph has a clear central topic. The referencing is generally clear, though some minor improvements in the variety of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contended', 'adolescents', and 'procrastinating'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'offsprings' (the plural of offspring is offspring) and 'letting teenager unaccompanied' (should be 'teenagers unaccompanied'). Additionally, 'smart lock down' is not the most natural phrasing in this context. While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the occasional inaccuracies prevent a higher score. Focusing on precise word forms and natural collocations will help you improve your lexical range and accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For example, 'parents feel sense a security' contains a redundant verb, and 'childrens life' lacks the necessary apostrophe for possession. There are also minor issues with article usage and pluralization. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and punctuation, particularly regarding possessives and plural forms.
