Student answer (Band 6.0)

Recent developments have propelled that teenagers in some areas of the US are not allowed to be out of doors after a specific night time to forefront of their safety. They are only allowed, if they are with an adult. In my opinion, this is a positive development, which will enhance safety of adolescences. This essay will not only provide reasons but also, provide relent examples related to that topic.

To begin with, one significant reason of this kind of curfew is that teenagers are not fully aware of what is right or wrong. This can lead to create a safe society for them because most of the unethical activities happens during night times. For instance, I have observed that child abuse and rapes are mostly occur at nights. In the past studies, it is found that crime rate is much more higher after midnight. This curfew is crucial, because it is related to the welfare of society.

Another reason is the health of growing children. It is often believed that nights are suppose to sleep. For example, teenagers have been taught the importance of regular eight to nine hours night time sleep. which has improved overall health, if they follow the routine. However, for any reason, if they need to go out then a adult must be with them is a very thoughtful for their safety.

In conclusion, some cities of US have high crime rate. Therefore; teenagers need to avoid go out during the specific time as it is related to the safety.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The candidate addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on teenage curfews and providing supporting reasons and examples. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, some ideas lack full development and generalisations are made. For instance, the claim that child abuse and rapes mostly occur at night is stated without sufficient qualification, and the example regarding health benefits remains somewhat basic. Overall, the response fulfills the basic requirements of task response with a clear stance, earning a band score of 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with logical paragraphing. Each body paragraph has a clear introductory focus, such as safety and health. Cohesive devices are employed, including transitional phrases like 'To begin with', 'Another reason is', and 'In conclusion'. However, some of these devices and referencing are slightly mechanical or faulty, such as the punctuation error and awkward linkage in 'Therefore; teenagers'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the essay appropriately, leading to a solid band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The candidate demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'enhancement', 'adolescences', and 'welfare'. However, there are noticeable word choice and spelling errors, such as 'relent' instead of 'relevant', 'night time' as two words, 'suppose to sleep' instead of 'supposed to sleep', and 'a adult' instead of 'an adult'. These errors do not impede communication, but they reflect a limited and occasionally inaccurate lexical control, justifying a band score of 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and subordinate clauses ('If they are with an adult', 'Although teenagers have been taught...'). However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several structural errors and punctuation slips, including 'Recent developments have propelled that teenagers...', sentence fragments like 'which has improved overall health, if they follow the routine', and misuse of semicolons ('Therefore; teenagers'). Despite these frequent errors, meaning is generally clear, placing the performance at a band score of 5.5.
