Student answer (Band 6.0)
Recent developments have propelled that teenagers in some areas of the US are not allowed to be out of doors after a specific night time to the forefront of their safety. They are only allowed if they are with an adult. In my opinion, this is a positive development, which will enhance the safety of adolescences. This essay will not only provide reasons but also provide relevant examples related to that topic.
To begin with, one significant reason of this kind of curfew is that teenagers are not fully aware of what is right or wrong. This can lead to create a safe society for them because most of the unethical activities happen during night times. For instance, I have observed that child abuse and rapes mostly occur at nights. In the past studies, it is found that crime rate is much higher after midnight. This curfew is crucial because it is related to the welfare of society.
Another reason is the health of growing children. It is often believed that nights are supposed to be sleep. For example, teenagers have been taught the importance of regular eight to nine hours of night time sleep, which has improved overall health if they follow the routine. However, for any reason, if they need to go out, then an adult must be with them is a very thoughtful for their safety.
In conclusion, some cities of the US have a high crime rate. Therefore, teenagers need to avoid going out during the specific time as it is related to the safety

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by stating a clear position on the curfew issue, arguing that it is a positive development for adolescent safety. The ideas are relevant and supported with explanations regarding crime rates and health benefits. However, some arguments are a bit underdeveloped and tend to over-generalize, such as claiming that 'most of the unethical activities happen during night times.' The conclusion is also somewhat abrupt and incomplete grammatically. Therefore, the performance aligns best with the Band 6 descriptors, as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though some areas lack full development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as safety concerns versus health benefits. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. Phrases like 'To begin with' and 'Another reason is' are used, but referencing and transitional phrasing can be awkward, as seen in sentences like 'However, for any reason, if they need to go out, then an adult must be with them is a very thoughtful for their safety.' These clunky transitions and referencing issues place the response firmly in the Band 6 category.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'adolescences' (though misspelled), 'welfare,' and 'propel.' However, there are noticeable word choice errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, such as 'night time to the forefront of their safety' and 'nights are supposed to be sleep.' Spelling errors also occur, such as 'adolescences' instead of 'adolescents.' These inaccuracies do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.5 or 6.0. Given the frequency of unnatural phrasing, a score of 5.5 is appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition in grammatical structures. However, frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing hinder readability. Examples include 'Recent developments have propelled that teenagers...', 'This can lead to create a safe society...', and the incomplete concluding sentence '...as it is related to the safety.' There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and prepositional usage. While communication is not severely impeded, the accumulation of errors across complex attempts prevents the writing from reaching Band 6, making Band 5.5 a fair reflection of control.
