Student answer (Band 6.0)
There are several reasons behind this phenomenon that in a few parts of the US, a curfew is imposed, in which teenagers are not allowed to roam in the area after a particular time at night unless they are with their parents or guardians. In my point of view, it is a good initiative taken by the government. This thing will help all of the residents in a very good manner, such as lowering the crime rate in the neighbourhood, and it is beneficial for their overall mental and physical wellness as well.
It is undeniable that the US have a very high rate of crime in today's era. The main reason is drugs; I also read some articles that were published by CNN, and in them they clearly show how the government is doing their best to stop drug trafficking from this country, but drugs are coming from various routes such as cargo ships, by air, etc. The main target of dealers is teenagers because it is easy to brainwash them, and they do not have any kind of knowledge about how many big consequences they are gonna face in the future.
Furthermore, it impacts their health as well. In my opinion, it is a good initiative taken by the US officials; it will also lower the crime rate because it increases only when people can not think wisely, so they do such bad things which impacts on their future. Moreover, imposing a curfew is a great way to avoid crime and maintain overall peace in the community.
To conclude, it is a good decision taken by the officials; it would be helpful to every individual in many ways, like getting more time to spend with their family members or performing some physical activities in their backyard and all, so it's great according to me.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, expressing a clear position from the beginning that the curfew is a good initiative. The student supports this stance with reasons such as lowering crime rates and benefiting teenagers' wellness. However, some ideas are repetitive and under-developed, particularly the discussion surrounding drug trafficking, which drifts slightly into a broader debate about drugs rather than focusing squarely on the curfew itself. While the arguments are relevant, they lack deep extension and specific personal examples or concrete evidence, relying instead on broad generalizations. For instance, mentioning articles published by CNN is a relevant reference, but it is not tied back tightly to how a curfew directly prevents drug trafficking among minors. This places the response comfortably at Band 6, as it addresses the prompt adequately but with some underdeveloped and repetitive arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used, though the body paragraphs are somewhat loosely structured and repetitive. Cohesive devices are utilized, such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude', but they can feel a bit mechanical and repetitive, especially the overuse of phrases like 'good initiative taken by'. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression between sentences occasionally stumbles due to conversational filler phrases like 'and all'. There is a clear attempt to guide the reader through the essay, but the lack of sophisticated cohesive links and the repetitive nature of the paragraph transitions limit the score. Overall, the logical progression is evident, matching the descriptors for Band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'curfew', 'guardians', 'residents', and 'trafficking'. However, there are numerous instances of imprecise word choice, colloquialisms, and awkward phrasing, such as 'This thing will help', 'brainwash them', and 'gonna face'. Additionally, repetition of basic vocabulary items (such as 'good', 'crime', and 'initiative') restricts the lexical score. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the general meaning without impeding communication, the presence of these informal and repetitive elements prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Spelling and word choice are generally functional, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor for lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar with complex structures such as relative clauses ('in which teenagers are not allowed...') and conditional meanings. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors and awkward punctuation slips throughout the text. Examples include 'the US have' (subject-verb agreement error with a singular proper noun), 'people can not think' (spacing error), and run-on structures like 'it is a good initiative taken by the US officials; it will also lower...'. Despite these errors, the meaning is rarely obscured, and communication is maintained successfully. Because the writer combines complex attempts with frequent minor structural slips, the performance reflects the Band 6 level for grammar.
