Student answer (Band 6.5)

Due to growing incidents of burglary, vandalism and other serious cimes in few cities of the United States, youngsters, who are less than 18 years of age, are restriced from going outdoors between a specific time period from 1 AM to 4 AM. If they need to go outside for any reason, their guardian should always be with them. I opine that this curfew is a positive step to ensure child sefaety and security.

Given the circumstances of high risk of kidnapping, the young generation is not independent enough to freely move around the streets, particullarly during the night time. Physically, they posses comparitively less strength and their vulnerability to crime traps can make them an easy target for the offenders. Emotionally, if they become vitims of any unlawful activity, there is a high probability that such innocents might develop serous chronic and intellectual diseases due to incident related fear and stress. Eventually, it is deterimental for their mental development. Hence, keeping the children indoors is considered a safe option while the police can put extreme efforts to search and catch the law-breakers.

Moving onto the government's implementation of the law that requires elders to accompany their teenage offsprings seems to be a positive scheme. In fact, the local authorities alone cannot cope with such a deadly problem. If children at kept safe at home at during crime affected hours, everyone will benefit from it. In this way, not only parents could be stressfree, but also children can individually get the chance to spend more time with their family members while at home.

In conclusion, I reiterate my viewpoint that the implementation of child curfew during specific night time is a great initiative to ensure public safety. Although police should work harder to alleviate this major issue, it is collective responsibility of the citizens to help law makers my following the precautionary measures.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The student addresses all parts of the prompt by stating a clear position that the curfew is a positive measure for child safety. The response explores multiple reasons, such as physical vulnerability, risk of kidnapping, and the positive role of parents accompanying teenagers. The ideas are extended and supported, demonstrating a clear overall stance throughout the essay. The arguments are relevant and well-developed, aligning with the criteria for Band 7, as all parts of the task are addressed and the position is well-maintained.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving from an introduction and personal stance to physical and emotional vulnerabilities, government implementation, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'Moving onto', 'In fact', and 'In conclusion'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, maintaining clear logical sequencing. However, minor referencing issues, such as 'elders' and 'offsprings', indicate some limitations in cohesion, fitting comfortably within Band 7.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate to sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'vulnerability', 'detrimental', and 'precautionary measures'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'cimes' (crimes), 'restriced' (restricted), 'sefaety' (safety), 'particullarly' (particularly), 'possec' (possess), 'vitims' (victims), 'serous' (serious), 'stressfree' (stress-free), and 'my following' (by following). These errors do not seriously impede communication, but their frequency prevents the score from reaching a higher band, placing it at Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures and relative clauses. There are, however, several grammatical and mechanical errors present in the text, such as 'in few cities' (in a few cities), 'youngsters, who are less than 18 years of age, are restriced' (minor punctuation/passive error), 'children at kept safe' (are kept safe), and 'offsprings' (offspring). While these errors occur fairly frequently, they rarely impede overall communication, allowing the response to secure a solid Band 6 for grammatical range and accuracy.
