Student answer (Band 6.0)

As, In some areas of the US, children are not allow to stay outside late night without a company of any adult while curfew is imposed. i think it would be beneficial because with this they can live safely and learn different kind of things.

First of all, the main resron of children cannot stay outside is that safety. To make it more clear, Late at night, teenagers have to face problems such as accidents, crime, or unsafe people. If they have to return home before a particular time, parents can feel more comfortable about their safety. For example, a teenager who stays out late with friends may have difficulty finding safe transportation home, while a curfew can encourage them to return earlier. Secondly, a curfew can teach teenagers responsibility and discipline. To elaborate it, when they come at home by time, they can develop good habits, such as managing their time and getting enough sleep. Also, they can spent time with their family members and make their bonding strong.

However, I do not think curfews should be extremely strict. Teenagers should gradually learn to make their own decisions as they become older. Parents could set different times depending on the teenager's age, maturity, and reason for being outside.

In conclusion, I believe that teenage curfews can be useful for safety and discipline, provided that the rules are reasonable and flexible. They should protect teenagers without unnecessarily limiting their independence.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses the prompt by giving a clear personal opinion on curfews for teenagers, supporting it with reasons such as safety and discipline, and adding a nuanced perspective on flexibility. The main ideas are extended with explanations and examples, such as mentioning accidents, crime, and time management. However, there is a penalty applied because the text falls short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 240 words as noted in the length check. Consequently, the ideas, while relevant and generally well-developed, cannot achieve higher than a band 6.0 due to this negative constraint violation. To improve, the student must ensure they comfortably exceed the word count threshold to fully develop all parts of the task without truncation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, moving logically from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing safety and discipline, a counter-perspective, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'First of all', 'Secondly', 'Also', and 'However'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in awkward transitions like 'To elaborate it, when they come at home by time'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but the mechanical nature of the cohesive links prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Overall, the logical progression is apparent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'curfew', 'responsibility', 'discipline', and 'independence'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors throughout the response, such as 'are not allow' instead of 'allowed', 'late night' instead of 'late at night', 'without a company of any adult', and 'come at home by time' instead of 'arrive home on time'. These errors indicate a limited flexibility and precision, placing the lexical resource firmly in the band 5.5 to 6.0 range. To progress, the writer needs to focus on accurate collocations and natural phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional structures and relative clauses such as 'If they have to return home before a particular time, parents can feel more comfortable'. There are, however, several frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement and tense issues like 'As, In some areas of the US, children are not allow', 'the main resron of children cannot stay outside is that safety', and 'they can spent time'. Punctuation and capitalization are also erratic in places. Despite these errors, communication is rarely impeded, and the meaning remains clear. This profile corresponds well to a band 5.5 performance.
