Student answer (Band 5.0)

There is considerable debate over in US whether teenagers should not give permission to go outside individually during restricted time at night especially when the drastic circumstances arise due to curfew. I strongly agree with this statement. In my persective, the adult should accompany them because they are well-matured to handle these critcial situations and they can protect them.

The primary reason why I support this view is that elders people are experienced and can confidently tackle the situation. This is because the riots and stikes are becoming increasingly common, these days and the senior know which areas are avoidable to visit and which not if any uncertainity happen. Apart from this, there is no surety that teenagers can bravely handle these conditions because they might be anxious which may have adverse impact on their mind as well as health. For example, there are several cases where children are noticeable victime by seeing unexpected scenes during curfew. As they are sensitive period. Whereas if they are with their parents or guardian then they can calm them on the spot.

In conclusion, the parents work as protective shield for their kid

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear stance agreeing with the curfew. However, the task achievement is significantly limited by the word count shortfall, as the essay contains only 190 words instead of the minimum 250. This prevents the ideas from being fully developed. While the writer introduces some relevant arguments regarding the safety and psychological well-being of teenagers during riots or critical situations, the body paragraph remains underdeveloped and relies on vague assertions rather than thoroughly extended examples. Due to the under-length penalty and insufficient development, the response meets the criteria for Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic organization with a clear introduction, a body paragraph, and a concluding sentence, though the conclusion is incomplete. Cohesive devices such as 'The primary reason why', 'Apart from this', and 'For example' are used to structure the text, but their application is occasionally mechanical or repetitive. Paragraphing is weak because the body of the essay is compressed into a single, overly dense paragraph that attempts to handle multiple distinct points. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'they' referring ambiguously to teenagers or adults. Overall, these cohesion and paragraphing issues align with a Band 5.0 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'drastic circumstances', 'uncertainty', and 'protective shield'. However, there are numerous inappropriate word choices, awkward collocations, and grammatical forms of words, such as 'noticeable victime' instead of noticeable victims, 'elders people' instead of elderly people, and 'stikes' instead of strikes. Spelling errors like 'persective' and 'critcial' also appear. While the vocabulary is adequate to convey the basic meaning of the argument, the frequent lexical errors restrict the score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is weak throughout the text. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'teenagers should not give permission' (passive voice error) and 'adult should accompany them'. Additionally, sentence structures occasionally break down or become convoluted, as seen in the opening sentence. Punctuation in the conclusion is also missing, leaving the sentence unfinished. These persistent errors that cause some difficulty for the reader place the writing firmly in Band 5.0.
