Student answer (Band 5.5)

In some states of the US, a 'curfew' is imposed, in which childrens less then an age of adult are not allowed to be out of their homes after a certain time at night until or unless an adult going out with them. Although in my view this is a good intitative by the government to keep teenagers safe and secure. Also there is a few problems associated with this 'curfew' including this will give them a feeling of punishment as well as it will hamper their studies.

First and foremost, teenagers sometimes do not have an idea what's good or bad for them because of that on the name of enjoy with friends they can make a dangerious mistakes. If an adult are accompanied with childrens they can guide them which things are a significant for them and as a result teenagers will be more safe and secure. For instance, an article published on New york times newspaper in year 2021 states that 80% of drug addicted people start taking drugs at their teenage.

Apart from this, these strict rules can disturb teenagers mentally because it can give them a feeling of imprisonment and lonliness. Additionaly, nowadays some students like to self-study in the digital libraries after their schools are done it gives them peaceful environment. For example, in my personal experience me and my friends like to study in library as compared to our home because at home our family can distract us easily.

In conclusion, restrictions on teenagers for night outing without an adult can safe and secure them from various problems like drug addiction. But it can affect their emotions by giving them a feeling of punishment and it can affect their studies as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by stating a clear position on the curfew and providing relevant reasons and examples. The writer acknowledges both the safety benefits and the drawbacks, such as the feeling of punishment and the negative impact on studies. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed and rely on general assertions, such as the mention of drug addiction and digital libraries. While the arguments are relevant and support the overall opinion, the depth of extension is typical of a Band 6.0 performance, where ideas are introduced but not fully elaborated with sophisticated arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is organised into four paragraphs with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, showing an overall logical arrangement. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Apart from this', and 'In conclusion' are used to structure the text, although some referencing is clunky or mechanical, such as 'because of that on the name of enjoy with friends'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, but the flow between sentences is occasionally disrupted by awkward transitions, placing the response firmly within the Band 6 descriptor.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'intitative', 'imprisonment', and 'distract'. However, there are numerous word choice and spelling errors, such as 'childrens' instead of 'children', 'dangerious' instead of 'dangerous', and 'lonliness' instead of 'loneliness'. These inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.5, as the control over less common vocabulary lacks precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional structures and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('childrens less then an age of adult are not allowed'), incorrect preposition use, and awkward phrasing ('an adult are accompanied with childrens'). Punctuation errors are also present, such as sentence fragments and run-on structures. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, the writing aligns best with Band 5.0.
