Student answer (Band 5.5)

In some areas of the US, curfew is imposed . In my opinion this is such a good act implemented by government. The teenagers are not that mature to make right decisions or they can do immoral activities in the absence of any adult.

On one hand, I am liking the rule as it should be implemented as the teenagers should not be allowed to stay out late night. The boys or girls of high school who just get exposure to the new things like drugs, cigerattes, alcohol, and night clubs. They make them astonish about the exposure to the things, they want to explore the feelings or results of the drugs. They saw in surroundings all the aduls are using vapes, smoking, having alcohol and joining night clubs. It creates curiosity in teenagers. For instance, a youngster of thirteen or fourteen years who has just passed his high school, went to his friend's home late night. While coming back to his own home he meet robers. The robbers shot him down and snatch his mobile phone.

On the other hand, there are parents who don't allow their children to go out. Theis type of parenting causes the lack of confidence in children . The teenagers of this generation, Gen - Z are already indulged in mobile phones. All time making videos, snap streaks and gamming. Gamming and social media apps restrain the teenagers from going outside or visiting places physically. The physical activities of this generation have already reduced. But, in this era we should keep our teens protected from drugs, harasments or modern era problems.

In conclusion, I would like to make an opinion based on my experiences is the teenagers should not be allowed to stay outside at night unless they are accompanied by an adult. In the supervision of parents they could do cycling, skating or any other healthy activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position that the author is in favour of curfews for teenagers ("In my opinion this is such a good act implemented by government"). Main ideas are presented, such as the vulnerability of teenagers to peer pressure, negative influences, and dangerous situations like crime. However, some ideas are underdeveloped or repetitive. For instance, the paragraph discussing parenting and Gen-Z habits drifts slightly into a broader discussion about mobile phones and social media rather than strictly focusing on the curfew argument. While the position is clear and supported with examples, such as the youngster who met robbers, the development of ideas aligns with a Band 6.0 descriptor due to some under-development and slight tangential wandering in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay is organised into introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an overall awareness of paragraphing. However, logical progression is occasionally hindered by abrupt transitions and faulty mechanical cohesion. Phrases like "On one hand" and "On the other hand" are used, but the second body paragraph does not truly present a contrasting viewpoint as expected; instead, it introduces a separate point about parenting and technology before eventually returning to the core thesis. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, such as pronoun ambiguity ("They make them astonish..." and "They saw in surroundings..."). These issues place the response firmly at a Band 5.5, showing some organisation and paragraph structure, but lacking smooth overall progression and precise cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student attempts to use a range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, including terms like "curfew," "curiosity," "exposure," and "harasments." However, there are frequent word-choice and collocation errors that detract from precision, such as writing "cigerattes" (spelling error), "aduls" (spelling error), "act implemented" instead of "measure implemented," and "meet robers" instead of "encountered robbers." Additionally, awkward phrasing such as "they want to explore the results of the drugs" and repetitive use of basic connectors limits the lexical range. Because the vocabulary is adequate to convey the basic message despite noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, it fits the Band 5.5 profile.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, but grammatical accuracy is weak throughout. There are frequent errors in verb tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and article usage, such as "The teenagers are not that mature to make right decisions," "stay out late night," and "Theis type of parenting causes the lack of confidence." Fragmented or poorly structured sentences also appear, for example, "While coming back to his own home he meet robers." Punctuation errors, such as missing spaces before periods and commas, are noticeable. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader—though meaning remains generally understandable—a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
