Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is known that in some regions across US, teenagers are needed to be accompanied by an adult while going out after a certain time at night. In my opinion, it is a very wise decision in order to ensure the safety of adslescents.

A closer look at the news across the world can certainly testify a rise in criminal offenses against adolescents. Be it Ayesha from Pakistan or Hattie from US, the story is always similar. Since, criminals usually look out for easier targets and in that case teenagers are the most suitable ones. Majority of these crimes include assaults, sexual advances or in some cases even a homicide.

A few days ago, I was watching a documentary. The purpose of the said documentary was to spread awareness among parents and teenagers. It showed how the predators would always reach out to the teenage girls as well as boys via internet. Later on they were asked to leave their homes for meetup once their parents were off to bed at night. In almost all of the cases, the teeagers would infact leave the homes to go out to meet the strangers from the internet. This automatically puts them in an extremely vulnerable state. If such a law were imposed in those regions as well, they could be saved from the horrors waiting ahead.

To sum up, in my perspective, the legal requirement of teenagers being accompanied by an adult at night in some areas of US is truly applause worthy. Other places need to take it into cosideraton as well to guarantee the safety of teenagers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student addresses the prompt by clearly stating their opinion that youth curfews are a wise decision to ensure safety. The position is maintained throughout the response. Ideas are supported with relevant explanations and examples, such as referencing a documentary about online predators. However, some arguments remain somewhat generalized and could be further extended for a higher band. For instance, the discussion on crimes against adolescents is introduced but lacks deeper analytical depth. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed adequately, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, such as crime statistics in the second paragraph and the documentary example in the third. Paragraphing is used appropriately. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally mechanical, and referencing is sometimes imprecise, as seen with phrases like 'the said documentary' and 'in that case teenagers'. Transitional phrases are present but limited, placing this response firmly in the Band 6 category.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'criminal offenses', 'vulnerable state', and 'predators'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'adslescents' instead of 'adolescents', 'cosideraton' instead of 'consideration', and awkward phrasing like 'testify a rise' instead of 'testify to a rise'. Despite these inaccuracies, communication is not impeded, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, aligning with Band 6.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as conditional clauses ('If such a law were imposed...') and relative clauses. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors and awkward structures throughout the text, such as 'teenagers are needed to be accompanied' instead of 'teenagers are required to be accompanied', and punctuation issues. Errors occur with some frequency, but they do not impede overall communication. This performance fits well within the Band 6 descriptor for grammatical range and accuracy.
