Student answer (Band 5.5)

While Europian countries are making their neighbourhood safe for youngsters, US on the other hand have curfew in some area's for young people to be accompained by an adult after specific hours. I completely disagree with US and i will be giving my reasons in this essay.

To begin with, teenagers are the next generation, they are the one who will run the country the way we do now, so by putting curfews on them we are taking their freedom away. They need to lead the path their own way, taking risks and solving problems on their own. By forcing them with a accompained adult, their own problem solving skill will be zero to none. For example 10,000 youngsters from all around the world came together in Russia for the leadership summit where they exchanged ideas and grow together.

US is supposed to be the safe state, the youngster need to know they live in a free and safe America. By letting them think they needed to be accompained by an adult we are unintentionally putting a fear in their mind. In order to make the leaders for next generaion we need to act today to change their minds. Government should make every neighbourhood safe instead of putting curfews. In school each teenager should be taught what to do incase of any emergency.

To summarize every teenager needs freedom in order to bloom and goverment should make arrangments to make every street safe in order for them to travel whenever and where ever they want.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position regarding curfews for teenagers. The writer outlines an opinion against such policies in the introduction and maintains this stance throughout the essay. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the argument regarding freedom is supported by a somewhat disjointed example about a leadership summit in Russia, which lacks a clear connection to the specific issue of US street curfews. Other points, such as the suggestion that schools should teach emergency protocols, remain under-developed and tangential to the main topic. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to extend and support all arguments with more relevant and coherent explanations and examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a summary conclusion, giving the text an identifiable progression. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. The transition between ideas relies on basic linking phrases such as 'To begin with' and 'To summarize', and some referencing is unclear, such as the sudden shift from discussing European countries and the US to mentioning a global leadership summit in Russia without clear logical bridges. Pronoun referencing is also occasionally imprecise, which disrupts the flow of reading. Improving the variety and accuracy of cohesive devices would enhance the logical structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to express opinions on a social issue. The writer uses some less common vocabulary, such as 'generation', 'leadership summit', and 'unintentionally', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling. Examples include 'Europian' instead of European, 'area's' instead of areas, 'accompained' instead of accompanied, and 'generaion' instead of generation. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score because they cause some difficulty for the reader and show limited precision. Expanding the control of word forms and spelling will significantly improve performance in this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, attempting complex forms such as conditional and participial clauses like 'By forcing them with a accompained adult, their own problem solving skill will be zero to none'. However, attempts at complex structures are often faulty. There are several errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'US on the other hand have' and 'the youngster need', incorrect prepositions, and capitalization errors like 'i'. While these errors rarely impede communication entirely, they are frequent enough to reflect limited structural control. A greater focus on accurate verb forms, articles, and agreement in complex sentences is required for further progress.
