On the other hand advoctes of nighttime curfews argue that they serve as a protective shield for both adolescents and the wider community. the primary reasoning is that crime rates, drugs abuse and gang related activity tend to escalate late at night. by keeping minors indoors cities aim to reduce the likehood of young people becoming victom of violent crime. For eample, some local police departments reports temporary drops in minor vandalism and loitering immediately following the enactment of curfew laws providing parents with a sence of security regarding their children whereabouts.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, maintaining a clear and well-developed position throughout the essay. The writer presents a strong stance against curfews, supporting it with relevant arguments regarding personal freedom and the root causes of crime. Ideas are extended and supported effectively, showing a solid grasp of the requirements. To reach the next level, the arguments could benefit from even deeper elaboration and a more nuanced exploration of the counter-arguments, avoiding slight generalisations such as treating all types of youth activities uniformly. The introduction clearly outlines the writer's opinion, and the conclusion succinctly reiterates the main stance without introducing new information, fully satisfying the core demands of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression of ideas from introduction to conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct theme, such as the arguments for curfews, the drawbacks, and the concluding thoughts. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or features minor lapses in referencing, such as occasional missing capitalisation and punctuation at the start or end of sentences that slightly disrupt the flow. Cohesive devices are employed, but transitional phrases like 'First and formost' and 'In conclude' reveal minor inaccuracies in cohesive mechanics that prevent the response from achieving a higher level of seamless integration. Improving the variety and precision of transitional markers would enhance the overall readability.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'delinquent behaviour', 'criminological studies', and 'superficial solution'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'prohobiting', 'delinuence', 'stict', 'foundamentally', 'unnecessaryrestrict', 'advoctes', 'likehood', 'victom', 'lawa', 'infring', 'restriciting', and 'empwering'. While these lexical errors and typos do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to place the response firmly in this band. To progress, the writer needs to expand their control over less common vocabulary and significantly improve proofreading habits to eliminate basic spelling and word-formation mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use varied syntactic structures like subordinate clauses and participial phrases. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly concerning missing articles ('public space', 'late at night'), incorrect singular/plural forms ('specific nighttime hours', 'private indoor spaces'), and mechanical punctuation errors, such as missing commas or spaces after punctuation marks. While these errors rarely completely impede understanding, they occur consistently enough to restrict the score. Achieving a higher band would require a broader range of error-free complex structures and tighter control over basic agreement, punctuation, and prepositional patterns within sentences.
