Student answer (Band 5.0)
If a curfew is imposed in some area, it's better to not step out of the home. We have seen the COVID pandemic, when we were not allowed to step out of our house. Because the government is working on our wellness, they don't want the public to suffer any such kind of issues. The curfew which imposed because there are some kind of serious issues going on. Being a good masses of the state we need to follow rule and regualtion. If it is necessary to step out you can accompaied with an adult which is for your safety. In my hometime some people made there home near the railway track but now the railway extending there track so they want all of those who were living there illegaly leave that place. Even though they involved the police insted of leaving that place they start protesting against the police and even fired the police station. The protest became very violent so the police put curfew in my city. Even internet was cut for 2 days, and no one was allowed to go out of the home.
To conclude, this kind of curfew is for our betterment, and we need to follow the guidelines that are given to us. Because precaution is better than prevention.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response only partially addresses the task prompt regarding curfews for teenagers, as the writer drifts into discussing a completely different type of city-wide civil curfew related to a local protest. Furthermore, the response falls short of the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, coming in at only 214 words. The writer attempts to present a position by stating that curfews are for public betterment and safety, but the ideas remain limited, basic, and under-developed. To reach a higher band, the student must ensure the word count requirement is fully met, maintain a strict focus on the specific topic of teen curfews rather than general emergency lockdowns, and extend their arguments with well-supported examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The essay displays some basic organization, but there is a noticeable lack of clear overall progression. The movement from general statements about the COVID-19 pandemic to a personal anecdote about a local railway protest feels abrupt and disjointed. Cohesive devices are used very simply and repetitively, such as the frequent reliance on basic linkers and repetitive phrasing like 'step out of the home' and 'leave that place'. Paragraphing is also poorly managed, with the main body of the text lumped into one dense, poorly structured block instead of being separated into distinct, logical thematic paragraphs. To improve, the writer needs to group ideas logically, use a wider variety of cohesive devices accurately, and structure the response into clear introductory, body, and concluding paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies on basic and repetitive lexical items, and there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. For example, phrases like 'good masses of the state' are unnatural collocations, and words like 'regualtion', 'accompaied', 'hometime', 'illegaly', and 'insted' contain clear spelling mistakes. The student also misuses vocabulary in expressions such as 'fired the police station' instead of 'attacked' or 'set fire to'. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, incorporate less common lexical items accurately, and carefully check spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammatical structures used are heavily limited, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex structures that are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in verb forms, tenses, prepositions, and articles throughout the text. Examples include 'The curfew which imposed', 'you can accompaied with an adult', and 'the railway extending there track'. Punctuation is also weak, marked by run-on structures and missing commas where needed. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning. To improve, the student needs to demonstrate a greater variety of complex sentence forms, ensure proper subject-verb agreement, and exercise better control over basic grammatical patterns and verb tense consistency.
