Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the United State of America Curfew is declared in soma places, therefore youngsters are not allowed to leave house after a specific time at night without having a company of adults. I totally agree with this statement. In this assay I will describe few reasons of my agreement.

Curfew generally happens during war situation, where things are not totally in control of the government. First reason of my agreement is safety. It is the first priority for the parents. In simple words, during curfew there are so many things are happening outside, sometime things might be getting worst at night. Therefore, it is necessity to have someone with teenagers for their safety.

Secondly, the youngest people do not understand seriousness of the situation. To simplify, teenagers are not much aware about the condition, as they do not know have enough knowledge. Therefore there might be chance that, they break the rule and do things which are not allowed. For example, gathering outside of the house are not allowed during this time but they are not understand the seriousness and do whatever they like.

Thirdly, they are very immature, there might be chances that they are influenced by others to do illegal activities. For instance, many political clashes are also a result of curfew sometime. Therefore, in this time political opponent try to influence teenagers by telling untruthful story as at night they have easy chance to talk with them.

In conclusion, safety of the teenagers, lack of knowledge and less seriousness of the situation and influenced by the people are the main objectives of my agreement with the statement.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position of total agreement regarding youth curfews. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the first body paragraph mentions safety and worsening situations at night, but it does not fully elaborate on how curfews specifically mitigate these issues. Similarly, the points regarding teenagers lacking knowledge and being susceptible to peer or political influence in the third and fourth paragraphs are repetitive in nature and rely on generalized assertions rather than detailed, well-supported explanations or specific personal examples. While the main task of presenting an opinion with reasons is attempted, the limited extension of these ideas prevents the response from reaching higher levels of development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some organization with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs featuring transitional markers like 'First reason', 'Secondly', and 'Thirdly', and a conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, as the body paragraphs tend to overlap in their themes regarding immaturity and lack of awareness. Cohesive devices are at times inadequate or mechanically used, such as 'In simple words' and 'To simplify', which do not connect the sentences smoothly. Paragraphing is used, but referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly with pronoun usage like 'they' and 'them' in relation to teenagers and political opponents, making the logical flow somewhat disjointed for the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'seriousness', 'influence', and 'illegal activities', but noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and collocation are present throughout the text. Examples include writing 'United State of America' instead of 'United States of America', 'soma places' instead of 'some places', 'assay' instead of 'essay', 'youngest people' instead of 'youngest' or 'youth', and 'untruthful story' instead of 'false information' or 'propaganda'. These lexical inaccuracies and occasional spelling slips cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict the precision of the argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing exhibits a limited range of structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside poorly controlled complex attempts. Frequent grammatical and punctuation errors occur throughout the response, including issues with articles ('Curfew generally happens during war situation'), subject-verb agreement ('there are so many things are happening'), and prepositional use. Attempts at complex clauses often result in faulty structures, such as 'there might be chance that, they break the rule and do things which are not allowed' and 'there might be chances that they are influenced'. These frequent errors frequently strain the reader and obscure the intended grammatical patterns.
