Student answer (Band 5.5)

Now a days in US the teenagers are facing alot of probems , some of them are created by themselves by getting engaged into activities which are physicallly and mentally affecting. In my opinions the curfews imposed in few areas in US for teenagers to stay at home after a particular time in night unless they are accompanied by an adult is a faboulous thought to reduce the number of crimes against the teenagers.

The very first reason is the increasing rate of teenager pregnancies in US.As comparatively in these the days girls are getting in trouble of unwanted pregancies due to having sexual intimacies at parties and clubs, which has a bad impact on their lives. The other reason I am aggressively against is increased rate of consumption of Drugs by teenagers.Drugs are so easily availble to kids by the street vendors who does not care about future of teenagers at all.

Furthermore, implementing a curfew after a certain time in night and even able to get out with an adult is not a harsh decision, it is just for reducing the rates of crimes and making sure that the futre of the progressive world is safely brought up under some rules and regulations.

In conclusion i significantly appreciate this decisions and in my point of view it is not restricting the teenager and taking away their freedom, its a fantastic step towards making sure that the teenagers are not getting into any kind of troubles they are not supposed to be in .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Please note that the response does not meet the minimum length requirement, containing 246 words with 8 words copied from the prompt excluded. Regarding task fulfillment, the essay addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position in favour of curfews to reduce crime and protect teenagers. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the arguments regarding teenage pregnancies and drug consumption are introduced rather generally without deep exploration. To reach the next level, the ideas need to be more fully extended and supported with clearer explanations and more detailed examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate different main ideas, such as teenage pregnancy and drug consumption. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, with transitional phrases like 'The very first reason is' and 'The other reason I am aggressively against is' feeling slightly repetitive or unnatural. Referencing and logical progression are occasionally hindered by abrupt shifts between thoughts. To improve, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible variety of cohesive devices to create a smoother, more natural flow between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'aggressive', 'progressive', and 'fabulous', but these choices sometimes show awkward collocation or stylistic inappropriateness. Furthermore, there are noticeable spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'probems', 'physicallly', 'faboulous', 'pregancies', 'availble', 'does', and 'futre', along with word choice issues like 'getting in trouble of unwanted pregancies'. These errors create some difficulty for the reader and prevent the vocabulary from achieving a higher rating.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying on a mix of simple and somewhat complex sentence forms. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently marred by grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('in US' instead of 'in the US'), incorrect prepositions ('in night' instead of 'at night'), and punctuation errors like missing spaces before punctuation marks. Subject-verb agreement issues also appear, such as 'street vendors who does not care'. These frequent errors require the reader to occasionally pause, placing the text firmly at this structural level.
