Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt regarding curfews for teenagers by taking a clear position that it is beneficial. However, the ideas are limited and under-developed, which keeps the response at this level. The writer attempts to explain the causes and effects, but arguments are superficial and rely on broad generalisations, such as claiming that 'mostly 7 to 10 years old kids' are affected, whereas the prompt specifically discusses teenagers. Furthermore, some of the reasoning shifts illogically to talk about tourism and the economy in developed countries. While the main stance is discernible, the lack of fully elaborated arguments and specific examples from personal experience prevents the response from achieving a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays some organisation through the use of standard paragraphing, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and transitions between sentences feel disjointed or mechanical. For example, moving from public security to the country's reputation and then abruptly to tourism lacks a smooth logical flow. Cohesive devices are used repeatedly and sometimes inaccurately, such as 'The cause behind it, I am going to explain in fourthcoming paragraphs' and 'This is beacuse children are like clay'. Referencing and pronouns are also frequently unclear, requiring the reader to work harder to follow the intended meaning, which is characteristic of this developmental level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, demonstrating a restricted range of words and phrases. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'recreational activities' and 'autherity', but these attempts are frequently marred by errors in word form, spelling, and collocation. Noticeable spelling errors occur throughout the text, including 'childern', 'complesary', 'fourthcoming', 'persepative', 'impartant', 'generaly', 'autherity', 'disciple', 'beacuse', 'hadit', 'cmotivate', 'geart', 'develop', and 'encosmy'. These lexical inaccuracies and persistent spelling mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader and impede smooth communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic connecting patterns. Attempts to produce complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to ungrammatical constructions and awkward phrasing, such as 'Teenagers safety are very improtant' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'When children are not allowed to be out of doors after particular time at night, its create disciple' (missing articles and pronoun confusion). Frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and missing articles occur throughout the essay and can cause difficulty and confusion for the reader.
