Student answer (Band 5.0)
In some areas of the US, a curfew is imposed, in which adolescent are not permitted to be out of doors after a particular time at night unless they are joined by an adult. In my opinion, students who have participated in school events and youngeters who do part-time work late at night will gonna effect from these restrictions.
One the one hand, Youngester travel at night to participate in events for various purposes. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response sits at this band because it only minimally addresses the task, primarily due to failing the length requirement. The text contains only 175 words, falling 75 words short of the 250-word minimum, with 26 of those words copied directly from the prompt. While a position is stated regarding how curfews affect working and participating youngsters, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention of South African teenagers organizing funds is vague and lacks sufficient extension to fully answer the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates some organizational structure with distinct paragraphs, yet it lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as using 'One the one hand' without a corresponding 'On the other hand'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making the logical flow between ideas disjointed. To progress to the next level, the writer needs to ensure ideas follow a clear logical sequence and use a wider, more accurate range of cohesive links to connect sentences and paragraphs smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic thoughts. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as 'adolescent' instead of 'adolescents', 'youngeters' instead of 'youngsters', and awkward word choices like 'will gonna effect' and 'neccesary'. These errors and spelling mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical range. To improve, the writer should practice correct word forms, accurate spelling, and more precise vocabulary related to social issues.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Grammar and punctuation exhibit frequent errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. The response relies on a very limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex constructions are often faulty, such as 'The poor families young son do this to live a decent life'. There are noticeable issues with subject-verb agreement ('young son do', 'restrictions... will gonna effect'), missing articles, and awkward prepositional phrases. To reach a higher level, the student must increase grammatical accuracy and incorporate a greater variety of error-free complex sentences.
