Student answer (Band 6.0)
According to recent reports on US, the crime rate have been increased since last year. Due to this, government had to impose more restrictions on local people which also includes the restriction on teenagers not allowed to go out alone after a particular time at night. Either they must be accompained by their parents or anyone adult from the family. In my opinion, it is a required policy introduced by the government as the kidnapping cases are increasing. The kidnapping and murder cases have become common in some parts of US, mainly the rural areas where people use to close their shops and business early and there is not much crowd at roads during night. At that time, the kidnappers roam on roads to kidnap the children mostly below the age of 15 for ransom.
In US, drug addicts are so common and these people do robberies so that they can get money to buy drugs. They look for individuals who step out of their home alone. These robbers usually attack in group.
Child trafficking is also a major crime in US, kidnappers attack small children and sell them to other countries and cities in exchange of a good amount of money. This has been shown in many movies and series as well.
Due to these reasons, government imposed curfew for teenagers because mainly teenagers are the target for these criminals. One of the reason of criminals targetting teenagers is that they can be easily manipulated, and sometime teenagers feel that they know everything better than anyone in the family. I would like to conclude this with an example from a hollywood movie in which a teenager influenced by his friends fought with his parents for money and gave that to his friends for buying drugs then his friends murdered him when he was high on drugs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting a clear position on the curfew imposed on teenagers, supporting it with relevant ideas. However, the development of these ideas is uneven. While the main stance is established, some points are only partially explored or rely on anecdotal examples rather than fully elaborated arguments. For instance, the reference to drug addicts and robberies is mentioned briefly without deep connection to the overarching policy. Furthermore, pointing to a Hollywood movie as main evidence shows a tendency to over-generalize and limits the academic depth required for a higher level. To reach the next band, the writer needs to fully develop all main points with sustained reasoning and more substantive real-world arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement, successfully presenting a personal stance and grouping thoughts into paragraphs, which establishes a logical progression of ideas. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. The transitions between paragraphs feel abrupt, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in "Either they must be accompained..." where the antecedent lacks smooth connection. Additionally, the paragraphing is underdeveloped, with some very short single-sentence paragraphs that disrupt the flow. To progress further, the writer must ensure smoother transitions between sentences and paragraphs, employ a wider and more natural variety of cohesive devices, and organize the text into balanced, well-developed thematic blocks.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and successfully communicates the central message. There are clear attempts to use less common items and subject-specific vocabulary such as "curfew," "kidnapping," and "drug addicts." However, the lexical control lacks precision. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as "on roads" instead of "on the streets," and spelling mistakes like "accompained." Some expressions feel repetitive, and stylistic awareness is limited. To achieve a higher band, the writer should incorporate a wider variety of sophisticated, less common lexical items with precise collocation and ensure that word forms and spelling are consistently accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and conditional structures. However, control over grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in basic structures, verb forms, and articles, such as "the crime rate have been increased," "reports on US," and "one of the reason." Prepositions within grammatical patterns also show inaccuracy, and punctuation requires better control. These errors mean that simple sentences are often error-free, but attempts at complex structures introduce frequent flaws. To improve, the writer needs to demonstrate better command over subject-verb agreement, article usage, and tense consistency while producing a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences.
