Student answer (Band 6.5)

In some regions of the US, teenagers are prohibited to be out of doors after a specific time at night except if they are along with an adult. In this essay i will discuess why I support this point of view and also describe some reasons behind my choice.

Firstly, i stand with this point because I believe that it is for the safety and protection of young children. Many young adults when unsupervised go out of their homes, have an increased chances to end up with bad circumstances as compared to the ones who go out accompanied by an adult. Government is trying its best to avoid such exposure. For instance, three months ago in Los Angeles, goverment has imposed a rule for the teenagers not to come out of their homes late night due to the increased ratio of kidnapping and theft cases. And the ratio has decreased after this curfew. Therefore, i believe that this curfew is a source of protection for the teenagers.

Secondly, It also creates responsibilty in children and they are able to spend time with their families. In this modern era, there is an increase trend of teenagers going out of their homes unsupervised late at night for parting, clubbing and hanging out with bad companies. Hence, this curfew will prohibit them from doing such actions and return home on time. So, instead of staying with the bad company of friends, they come home on time and spend rest of the time with family, which also built a strong bond between them. For example, If a child knows that he is prohibited to spend night outside the home will refuse any late night activity offered to him and return home on time which creates a sence of responsibility in him. Consequently, it is a positive development in a society.

In conclusion, in many parts of the US, teenagers are restricted to go out of doors after a particular time at night unless accompanied by an aduly. In my opinion, it is a positive initiative as it not only provides safety and protection but also creates a sense of responibility in teenagers

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear throughout: you support curfews because they may protect teenagers and encourage responsibility. Both reasons are relevant and extended with explanations, and the Los Angeles example gives the first point a concrete illustration. The conclusion also restates your view and summarises the two main benefits. This fits a response that addresses the task and supports its ideas, although some claims are broad—for example, that teenagers who go out unsupervised are more likely to face “bad circumstances,” and that curfews reduce crime. These points would be more convincing if qualified or supported with clearer evidence. The response also refers to “young children” where the task concerns teenagers; keeping the focus precise would strengthen the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs develop separate reasons, and the conclusion returns to your view. Signposting such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the argument, while examples are placed alongside the points they support. To make the organisation more flexible and polished, reduce reliance on formulaic transitions and improve links between some sentences. For example, “Hence” and “So” perform similar functions close together in the second body paragraph. The long sentence beginning “For example, If a child knows…” would also be clearer if divided or more directly connected to the preceding explanation. Overall, the structure is logical, though cohesion can be smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including topic-related terms such as “curfew,” “supervised,” “kidnapping,” and “responsibility.” However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, word forms, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the writing less natural. Examples include “prohibited to be out,” “increased trend,” “bad companies,” and “creates a sence of responsibility.” Several words are also repeated, particularly “home,” “time,” and “curfew,” limiting flexibility. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise phrasing would help you express the same ideas clearly and naturally without relying on repeated or awkward expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “unless,” “which,” and “if,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and verb forms occur often enough to limit accuracy. For example, “Many young adults … have an increased chances” has an agreement problem, while “the ratio has decreased” follows an awkward tense sequence after “has imposed.” The sentence beginning “For example, If a child knows…” also needs clearer construction and punctuation. Capitalisation is inconsistent, as in “i” and “Secondly, It.” Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, consistent tense, and correct singular or plural forms. Greater control of these patterns would make your complex sentences more reliable.
