Student answer (Band 5.5)

Teenagers are restricted to going out after a specific time at night without being accompanied by an adult in some areas of the US, where a 'curfew' is imposed. I agree with the decision.

There are two major reasons why I contend with the rule, not allowing youth to be out at night due to curfew limitations. The first and foremost relates to their safety. As the outer environment is dangerous for them, it would be harmful for them to go out at that time. Curfews are mostly implemented during challenging times, such as infectious diseases, criminal activities, and wars for the welfare of the citizens. Take a Covid-19, for example. This infectious disease killed thousands of people within a few days. To protect the lives of people, many countries impose curfew within their countries.

Another significant reason to stop teenagers to going out of doors at night during curfew restrictions without an adult is that it would help police to recognise innocent people. When a teenager is accompanied by an adult during curfew, it would be more likely to consider a normal person. Otherwise, if they seen alone at that time, they may be arrested by police officers, and face penalities for breaking law.

In conclusion, I acknowledge with the idea that the US government impose restrictionon teenagers to not go out after particular time alone. for their sfatey and their recognisation as an odniary citizen.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear from the opening—“I agree with the decision”—and you give two relevant reasons: protecting teenagers’ safety and helping police identify people who may be breaking restrictions. The Covid-19 example supports the general case for curfews, but it does not explain specifically why a curfew for unaccompanied teenagers is appropriate. The point about police recognition is also unclear: being accompanied does not necessarily establish that someone is “a normal person.” These ideas need more explanation and a more direct connection to the policy in the question. The response is also 13 words below the required minimum, so it does not fully meet the task’s length requirement. Develop each reason with a precise example and explain possible limits or conditions for the rule.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “The first and foremost” and “Another significant reason” makes the progression easy to follow, and the Covid example is placed with the safety argument. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some ability to guide the reader. To make the progression more consistently smooth, avoid formulaic transitions and clarify links between claims. For example, the move from infectious disease to a rule specifically for teenagers is not fully explained, while the police paragraph’s reasoning is difficult to follow. The conclusion repeats the position but could summarise the two reasons more clearly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “curfew,” “infectious diseases,” “criminal activities,” and “penalties,” and the reader can generally understand your main points. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or unnatural choices make parts of the argument difficult to interpret. “Contend with the rule” does not express agreement, and “recognise innocent people” is not a clear description of what police would do. There are also spelling and word-form problems, such as “penalities,” “sfatey,” and “recognisation.” Aim for precise, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For instance, explain that a rule may help police identify people who are violating restrictions, rather than describing them as “normal.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in the opening and a conditional structure in “Otherwise, if they seen alone at that time…”. The main message is usually understandable, but errors in verb forms, sentence construction, and articles sometimes make the reader work to interpret the meaning. Examples include “it would help police to recognise” followed by an unclear construction, “if they seen” instead of a correctly formed passive, and “Take a Covid-19” where the article and sentence pattern are not controlled. The final sentence also has faulty structure and punctuation. Practise building accurate conditional sentences and proofreading each sentence for a clear subject, verb, and complete clause.
