Student answer (Band 6.5)

In many parts of the USA, teenagers are barred by authorities to go out of doors at night without the company of an adult. Whereas, many experts believe that this initiative is crucial to safeguard young population from the illicit characters of a society, a certain group of individuals demand a holistic approach to counter this. I personally consider that this policy is effective at certain areas where the crime rate is quite high among teenagers, but certain other control measures should be taken as well in addition to curfew. This essay will exaime all related factors in details.

Without a doubt, juvenile delinquency is a fact in many areas. Teenagers can be very easily convinced for illegal activities, as a result, many illicit characters of the society specially targets teenagers to join their gangs or become part of their illegal activities. Additionally, many teenagers get influenced online through movies to follow certain group of individuals invloved in illegal activities. For instance, many movies portray robberies as an intelligent act of smart people, while in the actual world, this act is a grave law and safety concern for the general populace of a community. A curfew whereby teenagers must be accompanied by an adult at night time works as a deterrant to form any such gang by teenagers. Furthermore, negative characters of a society can not find an alone teenager to preach their negativities. Authorities mention that curfew is placed at night time as narcotics, and drug mafias usually are more active at that time. Another reason is that teeangers are usually engaged in schools during the day where they are under constant supervision of their educators.

However, it has also been observed that just curfew can not curtail the menace of teenagers involvemen in illegal activities. Actions are required at many other areas as well, such as online access restriction to illegal activities and promotion of healthy and sports activities at the gross root community level by authorities. For instance, usage of website should only be age restrictive and schools should engage communities to promote sports activities so that teenagers spend most of the time in developing healthy lifestyle.

On balance, It is argued that curfew helps young people in long run, but more work around this has been done in terms of awareness campaigns for healthy activies and online acces restrictions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear throughout: you support curfews in high-crime areas but argue that they should be combined with other measures. You address both the potential protection curfews offer and their limitations, and examples such as gang recruitment, drug activity at night, and community sports help extend your reasoning. This meets the task well. Some claims, however, are broad rather than fully explained—for example, the link between films and teenagers joining illegal groups is asserted without showing how common or direct that influence is. The final paragraph also mentions awareness campaigns and online restrictions without explaining how they would work. Develop these points with a specific example or clearer reasoning to make the support more consistently convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall progression: it introduces your position, explains reasons for curfews, considers additional measures, and concludes with a summary. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “Additionally,” “However,” and “On balance” help readers follow the argument. Within the main body, ideas generally move from risks to the possible protective effect of curfews. At times, though, connections between claims are abrupt: the discussion shifts from online influence to the role of schools, and the final paragraph introduces measures that were only briefly developed earlier. Some linking phrases also feel formulaic. Group related points more tightly and use clearer references to show how each example supports your central argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “juvenile delinquency,” “deterrent,” “narcotics,” and “community level,” which allows you to discuss the issue beyond basic terms. You also attempt less common expressions, but several choices or combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “illicit characters,” “preach their negativities,” and “at the gross root community level.” Spelling errors including “examine,” “involvement,” “teenagers,” and “activities” also reduce precision. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your position, but they limit the naturalness and control of the vocabulary. Prefer established collocations and check spelling carefully, especially in repeated topic words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses and cause-and-effect structures, as in “Teenagers can be very easily convinced for illegal activities, as a result…” The overall meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “teenagers are barred by authorities to go out” has an incorrect verb pattern, and “a certain group … demand” shows a subject–verb agreement problem. There are also issues with articles and sentence boundaries, such as the comma splice in “illegal activities, as a result,” and the unnecessary comma after “Whereas.” Work on verb patterns, agreement, and punctuation, then proofread long sentences by separating ideas where needed. This will make your varied structures more controlled.
