Student answer (Band 6.0)

Young children are not permitted to be out of doors in few regions of the United States, a curfew is implemented, after a specific period at night except if an adult accompanied them. I believe this perpective has both positive and negative impacts.

On the one hand, the primary reason why I support the curfew is that it would prevent teenagers from encountering any challenges, since night time is not safe to go out as there are several drug dealers, theives roaming around which might attack children if they are alone. Consequently, having an accoumpany of an elder would allocate a secure space.

On the other hand, the reason why I am oppine to the curfew is that it would undermine young generation's confidence, as they would become dependent on their gaurdiance and can result in losing their self-esteem. For instance, young people would be affraid of going anywhere by themselves and would feel like they do not have any freedom. There should be a age limit, such as untill sixteen to follow this curfew rule after that a child is much mature to take self care.

In conclusion, the night time curfew has both the benefits and the drawbacks, as it would give children security, simultaneously taking their freedom from them. Age limit should be followed to impose such rules.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You present a relevant, balanced response, identifying safety as a benefit and reduced confidence and freedom as drawbacks. Your position is understandable, and the suggestion of an age limit adds a practical point. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the claim that teenagers may encounter drug dealers or thieves is not supported with a specific example, and the age-limit proposal is asserted rather than explained. The opening also closely repeats the task wording instead of establishing your own view clearly. The response is 29 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop your reasons. Extend each main point with explanation or a relevant example, and state more directly whether you support curfews overall or only for younger teenagers.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two sides, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and the contrast between safety and freedom is clear. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in linking ideas. To make the flow more natural, avoid relying so heavily on formulaic transitions and connect claims to their explanations more smoothly. For example, the move from dependence to loss of self-esteem could be made clearer by explaining how restricted independent experience affects confidence. The final sentence repeats the age-limit idea without showing how it follows from the preceding discussion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “curfew,” “dependent,” “self-esteem,” and “freedom,” and the reader can understand the main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “drug dealers” and “secure space.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “perpective,” “theives,” “accoumpany,” and “oppine.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “allocate a secure space” and “take self care.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations rather than more complicated wording: for example, say that adult supervision “provides protection” and that a teenager can “look after themselves.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise forms will make your argument clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “since,” “as,” and “if,” and the overall meaning is generally recoverable. However, control is uneven, particularly in longer sentences. In the opening, “except if an adult accompanied them” needs a correctly formed clause, such as “unless they are accompanied by an adult.” In “a age limit,” the article should be “an,” while “a child is much mature” needs a comparative form: “much more mature.” The sentence beginning “There should be a age limit” also shifts awkwardly between a general rule and a specific age. Practise checking articles, verb forms, and comparative structures, and divide long sentences when needed. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen the response.
