Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is undeniably true that in certain parts of the United States, government has levied a restriction where offsprings are only allowed to go outside if they are with their parents after 9.00 at night. This indicates that they remain unaffected by the usual crimes and threats. I firmly believe that, it is a fantastic decision made by the government.

Everyone is aware about the increasing crime rates specifically in huge cities like New York and New Jersey. People are allowed to carry guns with them which makes the situation even worse. Gunmen often shoot anyone regardless of their age in order to get food or money. This can be dangerous to children as they cannot fight back or run away as quickly as adults. As a result, they are at a high risk, especially at night time when vision is limited. Recently, in Virginia, a shootist has killed three pupils who were going back to their home after school. Because he was looking for money, assuming that they might have something in their bags.

Having noticed this, no individuals permit their children to go out in the dark, concerning about their safety. The curfew imposed by the parliament actually protects both, children and adults within the nation. Keeping children at home will provide them with comfortable and safe environment, and this can potentially strengthen their family bond. Additionally, when offsprings are accompanied by their parents, these gunmen will not robb them at all. Consequently, the crime rates will be decreasing gradually.

To conclude, I opine that this curfew is essential in order to protect children and it should be continuing in a same manner in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you support the curfew because it may protect teenagers from crime. The response addresses the question and gives relevant reasons, including young people’s vulnerability and the possible benefits of staying with family. The example of a shooting in Virginia also attempts to support your concern about safety. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for instance, the claim that accompanying parents will prevent gunmen from robbing teenagers needs qualification or clearer reasoning. The discussion focuses almost entirely on crime and does not consider possible drawbacks, such as restrictions on teenagers’ independence. Developing these aspects more fully would make the argument more balanced and convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present supporting reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. Linking expressions such as “As a result,” “Additionally,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the argument. The progression is generally logical, moving from the danger of crime to the protective role of the curfew. Some connections are less smooth, however. The sentence beginning “Because he was looking for money” is a fragment and does not connect cleanly to the preceding example. Also, the relationship between keeping children at home and strengthening family bonds is introduced without much explanation. Clearer links between claims and supporting details, and less formulaic use of transitions, would improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “restriction,” “crime rates,” “accompanied,” and “strengthen their family bond,” so the main ideas are understandable. There are also attempts at less common wording, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and sometimes distract from the message. “Offsprings” is not the natural term for children in this context, “shootist” is an unusual choice where “shooter” would be clearer, and “rob them” is misspelled as “robb them.” Phrases such as “levied a restriction” and “comfortable and safe environment” also need more natural collocations or an article. Aim for precise, conventional expressions rather than choosing formal-sounding words whose usage is uncertain.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, using clauses with “which,” “when,” and “because” to explain your reasons. The overall meaning is usually clear, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms recur. “Because he was looking for money…” is an incomplete sentence, while “I firmly believe that, it is…” has incorrect punctuation around the clause. There are also problems with articles and verb forms in “provide them with comfortable and safe environment” and “it should be continuing.” The sentence about the curfew protecting “both, children and adults” also has awkward punctuation and structure. Review complete sentence formation, article use, and consistent verb patterns; greater accuracy across these structures would strengthen the response.
