Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: the positive aspects of the hotel, the issues with the food, and suggestions for improvement. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention that participants were unhappy with the food, the explanation is brief and lacks professional tone. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are expanded with more detail and that the tone remains consistently formal, as this is a business-related letter. The structure is clear, but the content could be more thoroughly elaborated to fully meet the requirements of a formal complaint letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Moreover', 'but', 'so'). There are also issues with sentence-level cohesion, such as starting sentences with 'but' or 'so' in a formal context, which disrupts the flow. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'I want to suggest you should do to improve the food', where the connection to the previous paragraph could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring logical transitions between sentences would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite basic and contains several errors in word choice and form. For instance, you used 'employer' instead of 'employee' and 'sich' instead of 'sick'. Additionally, phrases like 'do the possible things' are unnatural in a formal letter. To improve, focus on using more precise vocabulary related to hospitality and business communication. While your meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and the presence of spelling and word-choice errors prevent a higher score. Expanding your range of collocations would help you express your ideas more professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You rely heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'there are only one thing'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'they served' instead of 'they were served'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several sentences starting with lowercase letters or lacking proper sentence boundaries. While these errors do not completely prevent communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips before finalising your work.
