Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to inform problem reading a lunch that me and my company had in your hotel last week
Our company really like the hotel atmosphere as the area we booked was great as the things like type of tables, chairs and projector and staff we booked was great.Everybody is positive about the hotel.
However, the food you guys served was not like, as we all are expected.
All the food is too cold to eat not only this but also during the booking i informed to make food light and less spicy . Because most of the individuals are elder one. After that everything was made with too many spices and oily. Therefore no one touch the food during the meeting.
So, i suggest you to please review the details and will take care for future bookings as my team members want to give another chance to your hotel in future. Hope we will get positive response next time.
Your Faithful,
Mohit Batish

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly mention the positive aspects of the hotel, explain the issues with the food (temperature and dietary requirements), and provide a suggestion for improvement. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited by the language used. The tone is occasionally inconsistent, and some points, such as the specific request for 'light and less spicy' food, are communicated but could be more professionally articulated to better suit a formal letter to a manager. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the expression of ideas lacks the sophistication required for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure of your complaint. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'However' and 'Therefore' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'inform problem reading a lunch'. The transition between the praise for the hotel and the complaint about the food is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You rely on simple descriptors like 'great' and 'good', and there are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'inform problem reading a lunch' and 'the food you guys served'. The word choice is often repetitive, and there are errors in collocation, such as 'the individuals are elder one'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise, formal vocabulary suitable for a business complaint, such as 'unsatisfactory', 'accommodate', or 'professional standards'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You make frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Our company really like', 'All the food is too cold') and tense usage (e.g., 'we all are expected'). Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and incorrect capitalization. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your score.
