Student answer (Band 6.5)

Subject- Regarding the unhappy about the food

Dear- Sir,

I hope you are doing well

I am writing to inform you that last week, I organised full day meeting in your hotel as this meeting was one of the most important for our company as it was our 21th anniversary. Our all participants and head officers were invented in this meeting. The metting was on Sunday at 9'o clock.

Moreover, the decoration and all arrangement was preetty good, but the food quality was very cheap. Also, your staff members behaviour was unprofessional. Due to this bad food service, my all company's members were unhappy. All participants come from different places. I feel so awkared when I eat your meals. Mostly all food was too spicy and there was no sweet dishes available at lunch time.

You should improve the food in future, which will beneficial for your hotel.

I hope you will understand my point.

Thank you,

Komal preet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: mentioning the positive aspects of the hotel, explaining the dissatisfaction with the food, and suggesting improvements. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the food was 'cheap' and 'spicy', providing more specific details about the dishes or the service would have strengthened your response. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening and closing salutations need to be more standard. To improve, ensure that each point is expanded with a bit more detail to fully satisfy the requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical sections, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'Due to this', which assist in linking ideas. However, the paragraphing is not fully developed; the letter feels like a single block of text rather than distinct paragraphs for each point. Additionally, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus, separated by clear line breaks.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms such as 'unprofessional' and 'anniversary'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choices and inaccuracies, such as 'invented' (likely meaning 'invited') and 'awkared' (awkward). Some phrases, like 'food quality was very cheap', are not natural collocations. To improve, focus on learning common collocations for business correspondence and proofreading for spelling errors, which currently detract from the overall quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an ability to use simple sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I organised full day meeting' (missing articles), '21th' (incorrect ordinal suffix), and 'my all company's members' (incorrect word order). There are also issues with punctuation and capitalization, such as '9'o clock'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the clarity of your writing. To improve, practice subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles (a/an/the), and standard punctuation rules for formal letters.
