- explain why they were unhappy about the food
- suggest what the manager should do to improve the food in future
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter regarding our feedback for your hotel, from the experience of our office annual meeting held hotel past week.
Firstly, i would like to start with amazing ambience of your hotel. The garden area surrounded with tall coconut trees gave good shade and pleasant climate. The sitting arrangement besides the pool area made our morning breakfast amazingly memorable.
Further, I would like to bring to your notice of our dining experience. The welcome drink was although refreshing but too sweet for our tooth. The indian breads provided in lunch meals were too hard to break with one hand and gave a feel of eating chewing gum. The paneer starter stuffed with vegetables was giving very sour flavour.
I would like to conclude by suggesting advance tasting of all meals before served to all visitors. Hoping you would take our feedback in consideration.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You successfully identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issues with the food, and provided a constructive suggestion for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, while you mention the food was 'too hard' or 'sour', providing a slightly more detailed description of the impact on the participants would have strengthened the response. Overall, the task is fully addressed, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Further', and 'I would like to conclude' to guide the reader through the text. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The use of referencing is mostly clear, though the opening sentence is slightly awkward in its phrasing ('from the experience of our office annual meeting held hotel past week'). Improving the variety of linking words would help elevate the coherence of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'ambience', 'refreshing', and 'consideration'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'too sweet for our tooth' (should be 'too sweet for our taste') and 'gave a feel of eating chewing gum'. Additionally, there are some grammatical slips involving articles and prepositions, such as 'held hotel past week' instead of 'held at the hotel last week'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over idiomatic expressions and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text. For example, 'i would like to start with amazing ambience' is missing an article ('the'), and 'The welcome drink was although refreshing but too sweet' is a redundant structure. There are also issues with word order and missing prepositions, such as 'take our feedback in consideration' (should be 'into consideration'). While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these small errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band score. Focusing on article usage and sentence construction will improve your accuracy.
