Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to let you know about the reviews that was given by the attendees of the all-day meeting held by the company in the local hotel.
Certainly, it was an interesting event as expressed by the participants. They were also appreciative of the hotel environments and the facilities which they enjoyed.
However, it was in their feedback that the meals was not testy and they clearly stated displeasure in that aspect, though it looked appetizing but test less . It was discovered that the food served to them were untouched and they ordered what they ate online through foodie delivery.
In addition, I suggest the chef be sanctioned because such has happened before and nothing was done, I believe this will make him to step up and be extra careful while making any cuisine. Furthermore he can be given opportunity to attend a cooking workshop to update his knowledge and skills as well.
I look forward to your responds.
Yours faithfully,
Chinyere Ugwualu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: you mentioned the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the dissatisfaction with the food, and provided suggestions for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the suggestion to 'sanction' the chef is perhaps overly aggressive and unprofessional for a business complaint letter. To improve, ensure your suggestions are constructive and professional, focusing on service quality rather than punitive measures against individual staff members. The ideas are relevant, but the development of the 'why' regarding the food quality could be more detailed to fully meet the requirements of a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'However', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore' to transition between ideas. While the structure is coherent, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother. For instance, the transition from the description of the food to the suggestion for the chef could be more naturally integrated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'appreciative', 'facilities', and 'cuisine'. However, there are several noticeable errors in word choice and spelling that affect the precision of your writing. For example, you used 'testy' and 'test less' instead of 'tasteless', and 'responds' instead of 'response'. These errors are frequent enough to be distracting. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling and collocations of common descriptive adjectives and nouns. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise business-related terms would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'reviews that was given' (should be 'were given'), 'meals was not' (should be 'meals were not'), and 'food served to them were' (should be 'was'). Additionally, there are punctuation and phrasing issues, such as 'make him to step up' (should be 'make him step up'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently and demonstrate a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of basic grammatical rules.
