Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my feedback for the services provided by you and your staff at Ramada for an all-day meeting organized by me for my company held at your hotel on 12 July, 2026.
I am mainly writing this to thank you and your team for helping me to conduct such a well-planned meeting for my employees. All my staffs were so impressed with the facilities at your hotel. The most attractive one was obviously the large conference hall and the pretty arrangements made on-time prior to the meeting. The light and sound department at your place really stand out from any of your competitors in the town, and moreover, your staffs were so welcoming.
However, one thing which they were unhappy was the options in food. It would have been great if you have included more cuisines, as there were people coming from different parts of the world, who works for me.
I request you to kindly bring some improvement for future in your menu by including more Asian and European foods. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
Best Regards
Gokul

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what was liked (conference hall, arrangements, staff), explain the dissatisfaction with the food, and provide a constructive suggestion for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. To reach a higher band, you could have provided more specific detail regarding the food issue—for example, mentioning if the food was cold, poorly presented, or lacked variety—rather than just stating there were limited options. This would have helped to fully develop your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a single topic, which makes the letter easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'moreover' to link ideas. To improve, ensure that your transitions between sentences are smoother. For instance, the transition from praising the staff to complaining about the food is a bit abrupt. Using a more sophisticated linking phrase like 'Despite these positive aspects, I must bring to your attention a concern regarding...' would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases like 'well-planned meeting' and 'prompt attention' are used correctly. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and awkward phrasings, such as 'all my staffs' (staff is an uncountable noun) and 'the options in food' (which should be 'food options' or 'the variety of food'). You also use 'pretty arrangements' which is slightly informal for a business letter. Using more precise collocations would elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'one thing which they were unhappy was' (should be 'one thing they were unhappy about was') and 'who works for me' (should be 'who work for me' to agree with the plural 'people'). Additionally, 'your staffs were' should be 'your staff was'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and relative clause construction to improve accuracy.
