Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope you are dong well. I am writing this letter to share about the feedback that I got from the team. We held an all-day meeting last week at your hotel. Our participants really like your place but the food taste was disappointed.

This is the first time we got experience of your place. Me and other members of the meeting really enjoyed the facilities and service which provided by your staff. Additionally, the place was clean and well organized that was really impressive. Even though, there were other people in the hotel, you were taking care to maintain the silence zone for our meeting room. Furthermore, we were expecting a good quality food as well. Unfortunately, food was really cold and few dishes were not well cooked such as grilled chicken.

I would like to suggest you to check any dishes before you serve because it can affect the image of the hotel. Not only it is relates to health but the satisfaction level as well.

Thank you for understanding and time.

Yours faithfully,

Rut

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what the participants liked (facilities, service, cleanliness, and quiet environment) and explain the issues with the food (temperature and undercooked chicken). You also provide a suggestion for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To improve, you could expand slightly on the impact of the poor food to ensure the ideas are fully developed, as the current explanation is somewhat brief. However, the task is successfully completed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Even though', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more distinct. The referencing is generally clear, though there are minor issues with sentence flow in the second paragraph. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the progression of ideas is logical throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'facilities', 'well organized', and 'satisfaction level'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'food taste was disappointed' (should be 'disappointing') and 'it is relates to' (should be 'it relates to'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, try to use more precise adjectives and avoid repetitive phrasing like 'place' and 'food'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I hope you are dong well' (spelling), 'service which provided by your staff' (missing 'was'), and 'food was really cold' (missing article). While these errors occur, the meaning remains clear throughout the text. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice constructions. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures would also help improve your score in this criterion.
