Write a letter to the manager of the hotel. In your letter
- say what the participants liked about the hotel
- explain why they were unhappy about the food
- suggest what the manager should do to improve the food in future
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to review about the services we got from your hotel.
On July 1, 2026, I booked your hotel for conference meeting for my company. Overall, my participants like the theme of your hotel, conference hall was well designed and seats were very comfortable. Sophisticated technology was praised by everyone.
The food served for breakfast was very delicious. But lunch was below the average. According to menu, I booked for mild spice level and three options for desert. But we received extreme spicy food. Some of my workers have health issues and they are not able to eat that much spices. For desert we only got brownies and portion was small. Water served by your hotel had no ice. Yesterday, i got call from my two worker that they were sick.
My suggestion to you is that always serve spice level of food according to guests preference and double check the list of order before serving. I hope you will work on this area and make it better for future.
Your faithfully,
Deep

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issues with the lunch service, and provided constructive suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the impact of the poor lunch service on the overall success of the meeting, as this would demonstrate a more thorough development of ideas. However, the response is fully relevant and meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Overall' and 'But', though the transition between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the jump from discussing the lunch menu to the water and then to the staff sickness is a bit abrupt. Using more varied linking words or phrases like 'Furthermore' or 'Consequently' would improve the flow and help connect your points more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'sophisticated technology' and 'preference' correctly. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'review about' instead of 'provide feedback on' and 'desert' instead of 'dessert'. Additionally, 'extreme spicy food' should be 'extremely spicy food'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over collocations and spelling. Expanding your vocabulary to include more formal expressions would enhance the professional tone of your letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'my participants like' (should be 'liked'), 'conference meeting' (should be 'a conference'), and 'i got call' (should be 'I received a call'). There are also issues with article usage, such as 'According to menu' (should be 'According to the menu'). While these errors are frequent, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the consistent use of articles.
