Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Mr Kapoor,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to share my positive feedback regarding your hotel. Actually, last month I organised full-day meeting in your hotel and our clients were amazed by your facilities and services.

Majority of our participants were impressed by arrangements of meeting area, comfortable chairs, stage decoration and welcome drink services. Moreover, Your receptionist were helpful and friendly, they instructed our clients regarding finding meetings venue and when they get stuck in problems, your staff suggested them in order to overcome our participant's difficulties.

However, they were disappointed by catering services, as food was cold and had limited menu like butter chicken, Indian flat-bread, buttermilk and salad and no options for a vegetarian meals. Consequently, it makes them unable to got satisfactory food, which can fulfil their hungerness.

I suggest you to add various cultural foods like Mexican, Chinse, Italian and vegetarian for providing plenty of options to visitors for eating meals and it would be fresh and hot meals while serving. Therefore, your clients will be impressed by tempting and delicious food, which makes them energetic throughout the day.

I hope my suggestions will be helpful to you regarding improving lunch services and build strong image among the society. Please let me know if you need any help.

Yours faithfully,

Twinkle

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issues with the catering, and provided constructive suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, ensure that your explanations are slightly more nuanced; for example, when discussing the food, you could elaborate on how the lack of variety impacted the professional atmosphere of the meeting. Overall, you have successfully fulfilled the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Consequently' to link your ideas. While the progression is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points of the letter. To improve, try to vary your linking words further and ensure that the reference to 'they' in the second paragraph clearly points back to the staff rather than the participants to avoid any ambiguity.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'amazed by your facilities' and 'catering services' are used correctly. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'fulfil their hungerness' (should be 'satisfy their hunger') and 'build strong image among the society' (should be 'build a strong reputation'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage to reach the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'organised full-day meeting' (missing article), 'receptionist were' (subject-verb agreement), and 'unable to got' (incorrect verb form). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as these are frequent slips in your writing.
