Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear sir or Madam,
I hope all is well.
My name is Shivam, and I am the assistant manager of "Canadian Security Force".
I am writing this letter in regards to inform you that on behalf of my company, I arranged a one day annual meeting at your hotel on July 14th, 2026.
We had 7 stakeholders including myself and CEO of the company. The stuff was happy and pleased by the hotel's arrangements and hospitality.
However, some of our senior staff members complained about the food which was served by the hotel in lunch. They complained saying, they did not like the taste of the food. In addition, they said, the non veg food was not cooked well, it was hard to swallow.
As an assistant manager of the company, and also someone who arranged the meeting at hotel, I would want you as a manager of the hotel to check the food before serving to customers. Also, please make sure everytime with in particular with non-veg items have they been cooked properly?
I look forward to an improvement when next time I pay visit.
Thank you and have a pleasant day.
Sincerely,
Shivam

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state what was liked about the hotel, explain the issues with the lunch, and provide a suggestion for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the suggestion to 'check the food' is quite general. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific suggestions, such as requesting a menu review or a change in catering staff. Overall, the response is relevant and addresses the task requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'However', 'In addition', and 'Also' to link your ideas. While the progression is clear, the paragraphing is slightly fragmented; the body paragraphs could be better unified to improve the flow. Some transitions feel a bit mechanical, but the overall message is easy to follow, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'stakeholders', 'hospitality', and 'arrangements'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'The stuff was happy' (should be 'staff') and 'everytime with in particular' (which is awkward phrasing). While you successfully communicate your points, the vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'complained' used twice in the same sentence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am writing this letter in regards to inform you' (should be 'in order to inform you' or 'regarding'), and 'everytime with in particular with non-veg items have they been cooked properly?' (which is a run-on and grammatically incorrect). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are some issues with sentence boundaries. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
