Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: the positive aspects of the hotel, the issue with the food, and suggestions for improvement. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. The mention of 'loose motion' is a serious allegation that, while relevant to the complaint, is expressed in a way that lacks the professional tone expected in a formal business letter. The response covers the requirements, but the tone is inconsistent, shifting between a formal complaint and a more casual, conversational style. To reach a higher band, the ideas should be expanded with more professional language and a clearer structure.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as 'that is a reason I am writing this letter to you' and 'Another point worth mentioning is that'. Some transitions feel forced rather than natural. While the overall message is clear, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'that food') is more precise. The paragraphing is present but could be more effectively utilised to separate the different sections of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be understood. However, there are several instances of unnatural phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'visited your hotel yesterday with my all employees' (should be 'all my employees') and 'loose motion' (which is not standard English for food poisoning). The range is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors like 'peaceful environment' and 'positive response'. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and formal business terminology appropriate for a letter of complaint to a manager.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'I am Loma Desai who is working' (should be 'I am the manager of...'), 'Let me explain you' (should be 'explain to you'), and 'they have complain' (should be 'they have complained'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to lower the score. A greater focus on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage is recommended.
