Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to you inform you regarding the visit of our companies' member during last month about your hospitality.

Mainly, your hotel is 5 stars and reupdated in your city, view city and cleaning services was also good. As our company organized very important meeting in your hostel, you have provided excellent room with providing all equipment's that is necessary for the conference, as the clients is from foreign country they want try some different food from our country at the end of our long last event. Food that is provide by your staff is not good, firstly quality of food is less as compared to the price, that is not the main problem. its taste is not worst, ingredients are not mixed, in the soup its only boiling water and the main course have raw vegetables. During the time of eats all staff feels some disgusting smell from the desert, due to these conditions they are not satisfied the food your team provided.

However, all other services are quite better. For future references as a manager you have to make sure all the food that is servicing to your customer will be supervised by you and if you can taste first that will also helpful and you can also change your chef as well as some new dishes in your menu for better look.

I hope you will look towards my request and take actions on it

Thanking You

Your sincerely,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully mention the positive aspects of the hotel, explain the specific issues with the food, and provide suggestions for improvement. However, the tone is occasionally inconsistent and some ideas, such as the 'disgusting smell from the desert', are slightly unclear or confusingly phrased. While the task is fully addressed, the development of ideas could be more professional and precise to better suit the formal context of a letter to a manager.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'firstly', but the flow between sentences is sometimes hindered by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. For instance, the transition between the positive aspects of the hotel and the complaints about the food is a bit abrupt. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would help improve the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, but there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations. Examples include 'reupdated' (instead of renovated), 'hostel' (when you likely meant hotel), and 'during the time of eats' (which is non-standard). Additionally, 'disgusting smell' is quite strong and perhaps too informal for a professional complaint letter. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology and ensuring that your word choices are appropriate for a formal business context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You frequently struggle with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'clients is', 'staff feels') and article usage (e.g., 'in the soup its only boiling water'). Some sentences are quite long and become difficult to follow due to punctuation errors and missing prepositions. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these grammatical slips prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for agreement errors will be very beneficial.
