Write a letter to the manager of the hotel. In your letter
- say what the participants liked about the hotel
- explain why they were unhappy about the food
- suggest what the manager should do to improve the food in future
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to complained about your hotel food service on my company event last week.
Our clients mention positive feedbacks about your staff hospitality, especially service desk employees. They are always active 24/7 and ready to help everyone, even with any miner issue. which makes our participants happy.
However, the most negative comments of our participants are about the food service. Basically the taste of cooked food was extreme salty and bitter, which makes the food uneatable for our clients.
In my opinion, you should make a separate department to check the quality as well as the taste of the food before serving to any guest. It may help to improve the food management in your hotel, which can make your hotel overall five star place.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope you will work on my suggestion.
Best regards,
Simranjeet Singh.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: the positive aspects of the hotel, the issues with the food, and a suggestion for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion to 'make a separate department' is a bit simplistic and could be expanded to include specific actions like hiring a new head chef or conducting a food tasting session. Despite this, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is left in no doubt about the writer's intentions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. For example, the transition 'which makes our participants happy' is a bit repetitive in structure. There are also minor issues with sentence connectivity, such as the fragment 'which makes the food uneatable for our clients' following a sentence about taste. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences are fully connected would help elevate the score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There are some instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choice, such as 'complained' instead of 'complain', 'miner' instead of 'minor', and 'extreme salty' instead of 'extremely salty'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary and ensuring correct word forms in various contexts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'I am writing this letter to complained' (tense error), 'Our clients mention positive feedbacks' (pluralization error), and 'before serving to any guest' (missing subject). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely cause confusion or impede the reader's understanding. The punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure could be more varied to demonstrate greater control over complex grammar. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency will be beneficial.
