Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope you are doing well! I am writing to express my dissatisfaction regarding the food that our team experienced during our last visit at your esteemed establishment.
The participants liked atmosphere as during meeting time there was no disturbance experience, and the arrangements were excellent. The booked hall was equipped with sufficient equipments that were required for the meeting including audio and visual arrangements.
I want to inform that the participants were unsatisfied with the food that was provided as it was not up to the expectations as we assumed because of its reputation. The food the served, which presented poorly, along with this it was not warm enough and lacked of taste.
It would be appreciated if the food can be served with good presentation as it can make experience more appealing. Moreover, it is also essential to serve warm and tasty food not only to satisfied the customers but also to maintain the reputation of the restaurant.
I hope this situation would be understand and appropriate actions would be taken to solve these problems in the future.
Yours sincerely.
Soni.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully identified the positive aspects of the hotel (atmosphere and equipment), explained the dissatisfaction with the food (presentation, temperature, and taste), and provided suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though the development of the suggestions could be slightly more detailed to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is well-structured and addresses the task requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'the food the served' which disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'dissatisfaction', 'esteemed', and 'appealing'. However, there are some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'lack of taste' (should be 'lacked taste' or 'was tasteless') and 'sufficient equipments' (equipment is an uncountable noun). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'the food the served' (missing 'that was'), 'not only to satisfied' (should be 'satisfy'), and 'would be understand' (should be 'understood'). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice constructions.
