Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: the positive aspects of the hotel, the complaints regarding the food, and suggestions for improvement. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the explanation of why the food was unsatisfactory is slightly vague, relying on simple descriptors like 'oily' and 'boring' without providing specific examples of the dishes. While the tone is appropriate for a formal letter, the structure is slightly disjointed, and the opening sentence incorrectly states that the manager organized the meeting, rather than the writer. To improve, ensure that each point is expanded with more detail and that the narrative flow is logical.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into a single block of text, which lacks proper paragraphing. In IELTS writing, clear paragraphing is essential for a high score. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'further', these are often used mechanically or incorrectly. The progression of ideas is sometimes difficult to follow because the sentences are not well-connected. For example, the transition between the praise for the hotel and the criticism of the food is abrupt. Using a clear structure—an introduction, a body paragraph for each bullet point, and a closing—would significantly improve the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. There is a reliance on simple adjectives like 'good', 'happy', and 'boring'. Some word choices are unnatural or incorrect, such as 'the food was do oily' (likely a typo for 'too') and 'the menu of the food can not meet the professionalism'. There is also a lack of variety in the language used to describe the hotel and the food. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise collocations and a wider range of descriptive vocabulary, such as 'impeccable service' or 'uninspired menu'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'they was liked' and 'decorations was'. Additionally, sentence structure is often awkward, as seen in 'the environment and atmosphere calm and peace', which lacks a verb. The use of articles and prepositions is also inconsistent. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often faulty. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and verb usage would help to reduce these errors and improve clarity.
