Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear sir,

I hope you're doing well. I recently took the feedback survey of meeting which was conducted in heaven hotel last week. After survey, I identified some positive or negative points which I want to discus with you.

First of all, I would like to inform you about good aspects of meeting which includes, ambiance, location, timings, guests, speakers, friendly environment, meeting agenda and outcomes all things organized in a sufficient manner . Everyone appreciated the way we managed all day meeting.

On the other hand, people were unhappy about food. some people don't like menu because they are vegetarian. some of them said the food was too spicy and not presented well. I want to give you some suggestions to improve our menu . First . we should change the catering person because it is too expensive and not making delicious food , and secondly, we should design our menu to add vegetarian and non vegetarian cuisines which would be beneficial for our upcoming meetings. I'm sure these measures will help you overcome the situation successfully.

I hope you find my suggestions useful. Let me know if you need any further help. I wish you all the best.

Best wishes,

Tina

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: the positive aspects of the hotel, the issues with the food, and suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, when explaining why participants were unhappy, you mention the food was 'too spicy' and 'not presented well', which is good, but the suggestion to 'change the catering person' is a bit vague. To reach a higher band, try to provide more specific, professional justifications for your suggestions, such as requesting a tasting session or a more diverse menu selection.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices like 'First of all', 'On the other hand', and 'First... and secondly'. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition between the positive aspects and the negative feedback could be smoother. Additionally, there are some minor issues with punctuation and sentence structure that slightly affect the flow of ideas. Overall, the progression of the letter is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'ambiance', 'outcomes', and 'cuisines'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'took the feedback survey of meeting' (should be 'took part in the feedback survey for the meeting') and 'sufficient manner' (which does not quite fit the context of organization). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on more precise collocations will help improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the meeting', 'the survey'), subject-verb agreement issues ('some people don't like menu'), and punctuation errors (e.g., 'First . we should'). While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of your points. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules like article usage and consistent verb tense, and try to vary your sentence structure with more complex subordinating conjunctions.
