Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or, Madam,
I am writing this letter to convey a feedback to you regarding the services that we got from your side as I recently conducted an all-day meeting in your hotel.
Firstly, I am pleased to inform you that all of my team members are happy from the hospitality they got by your staff. We did not get face any obstacle from launching my meeting to wrapping it, neither in sense of any noise disruption nor any technical issue. Therefore, this leads to ends up our meeting with great enthusiasm.
However, the food that we got served was not as we expected. The quality of food was a bit underperforming for us. None of my staff including me liked the food that we got served as some of it seemed to be undercooked while other is cold.
Therefore, I would like to request you for future to please maintain a quality in regards of food as it is one of the vital part of any gathering.
I hope you will understand my opinion.
Thanks,
Yours Sincerely,
Gouri

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points of the task. You clearly identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issues with the lunch service, and provided a suggestion for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. To reach a higher band, ensure your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, instead of just saying the food was 'underperforming', you could briefly describe the impact this had on the meeting atmosphere or the participants' morale. Overall, the response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'However', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. While the progression is generally clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the referencing within paragraphs is tighter. For example, in the second paragraph, the phrase 'this leads to ends up our meeting' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow of the sentence. Improving the connection between sentences will help your writing feel more natural and cohesive.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'hospitality', 'disruption', and 'enthusiasm'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'convey a feedback' (should be 'provide feedback') and 'get face any obstacle' (should be 'face any obstacles'). Additionally, 'maintain a quality in regards of food' is slightly unnatural. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more specific descriptors for service and quality would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'happy from the hospitality' (should be 'happy with'), 'none of my staff including me liked' (should be 'neither my staff nor I'), and 'other is cold' (should be 'others were cold'). These errors do not generally impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage, particularly when describing past events versus future expectations.
