Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. We came to your hotel a week before for conducting our company's meeting. The seating area arranged by your staff was very organized. There were enough seats and water bottle on each table for every member. The lighting was perfect as well as your hotel was very well maintained and cleaned.
However, we were disappointed by the lunch we had over there. The waiters served us the cold food and we had to send it back again for reheating. We informed your employees to serve us food with less oil and mild spicy. The food which was served on our plates were fiery and seems to be not fresh.
I would like to request you to take all the complaints of the customers seriously. The employees need some training as well so that customer might be satisfied with your service. To retain the customer its crucial to prioritize customers choices .I hope you find this feedback helpful in future.
Yours Faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the specific issues regarding the food quality and service, and provided constructive suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the impact of the poor food on your meeting, which would further develop your ideas and demonstrate a more sophisticated approach to the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' and 'as well as', to link your thoughts. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases to connect sentences more fluidly. For example, instead of starting sentences with simple structures, you could use phrases like 'Furthermore' or 'Consequently' to better demonstrate the relationship between your points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use relevant terms like 'organized', 'maintained', and 'prioritize'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'mild spicy' (should be 'mildly spiced') and 'seems to be not fresh' (should be 'did not seem fresh'). To improve, focus on using more precise adjectives and adverbs to describe the food and service, and ensure that your collocations sound natural to a native speaker.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'a week before for conducting' (should be 'a week ago to conduct'), 'water bottle' (should be 'water bottles'), and 'food which was served... were' (subject-verb agreement error: 'was'). Additionally, punctuation needs attention, particularly regarding the placement of commas and the use of full stops. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage will help you achieve a higher score.
