Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
The purpose of my writing today is to share a collective feedback on behalf of our company. We company had an all-day meeting last Friday in your hotel.
Our company arranges such meetings in every quarter with the fixed venue i.e. your hotel. Every time, our company chooses your hotel for its trust and reliability. Participants have praised a lot about hospitality and unmatched services.
This time many people have complained about the food and shown disappointment towards it. There were limited vegetarian food options for the people who don't eat meat. Moreover, food was served cold, it wasn't warm enough. It's the first time, I have heard such responses from the participants.
I have few suggestions for you, keep good number of options for vegetarians as well as non-vegetarians. Keep an extra staff from next time who will sure food is hot every time when it's served,
I hope my suggestions translate into prompt actions from your side. Your kind cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated. An open line of communication, from your side, in this case would greatly help out.
Yours Sincerely,
Vaishali Wadhwa

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly stated what was liked (hospitality and service), explained the issues with the food (lack of vegetarian options and temperature), and provided constructive suggestions for improvement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. To improve further, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could briefly mention how the poor lunch impacted the overall success of the meeting to add more weight to your complaint. Overall, the task is fully addressed with a clear purpose throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover' and 'This time', to link ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that transitions between sentences are smoother. For example, the transition between the praise for the hotel and the complaint about the food is a bit abrupt. Improving these transitions would elevate the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'hospitality', 'unmatched services', and 'prompt actions'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'share a collective feedback' (should be 'provide feedback') and 'keep good number of options' (should be 'provide a wider variety of options'). While these errors do not impede communication, they show a need for more precise usage. Expanding your vocabulary to include more formal business-related collocations would help you reach a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'We company had' (should be 'Our company had'), 'I have few suggestions' (should be 'I have a few suggestions'), and 'who will sure food is hot' (should be 'who will ensure the food is hot'). Additionally, there is a punctuation error at the end of the third paragraph where a comma is used instead of a period. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
