Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to give my feedback on an all-day meeting which was held at your hotel on the 25th of July 2026. All my participants liked the hotel, they all said that the staff was very co-operative. They appreciated the sitting and music arrangement. The view from the window was amazing. All equipments were arranged by staff members before in hand.

Regardless of an arrangements, my participants were unhappy about the food which was served for lunch. They complained that food was not firmly cooked. Not only the meat was raw but also only few options were available for vegetarian,

I would suggest you to have more options for vegetarians in the menu. Moreover, you can let the guests know in advance about the availability of foods, so that they can make further arrangements.

I would really appreciate, if you consider our suggestion and improve the quality of food service in future. Next month we again have a meeting at same place, so pre-book our rooms. I will send you the details in couple of days.

Yours faithfully,

Navkirat Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully identified the positive aspects of the hotel, explained the issues with the lunch, and provided suggestions for improvement. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the inclusion of a booking request at the end is slightly tangential to the main purpose of the feedback. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, meeting the requirements of the task effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that all parts of the letter remain strictly focused on the core purpose of the correspondence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Regardless of', 'Moreover', and 'In addition', to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor mechanical errors in sentence structure, such as the comma splice in the second paragraph ('...vegetarian,'). The use of referencing is generally clear, though some transitions could be smoother to improve the overall progression of the argument. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'co-operative', 'appreciated', and 'availability'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'before in hand' (should be 'beforehand') and 'firmly cooked' (should be 'properly cooked' or 'undercooked'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over collocations. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated phrases would help elevate the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'All equipments were arranged' ('equipment' is uncountable) and 'Regardless of an arrangements' (incorrect article usage). Additionally, there is a punctuation error at the end of the second paragraph. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately.
